Hi
I have a important game today and after much considerations I come to the conclusion that I should play Patient offense.
My opponent plays RnG and has good stats with it.
So I have some questions regarding Patient strategy.
1)Good passing is required for all players or just for outside players(PG,SG,SF)? I have passing 9 only for PG and SG, the SF has 5 and C and PF are very low on passing.
2)Patient increases chances of more offensive rebounding? My opponent has low rebounding and my 2 inner players are quite good on rebounding.I am thinking that in the patient offense they will be better positioned and be able to rebound more (compared to a RnG offense for exp).

Any insides about my today game would me more then welcome.

Thanks

In patient offense your best shooter will take majority of shots
player with highest JS & JR
find your opponents weakest defender hopefully at PG, SG or SF
however...a check of your opponent suggests you won't have any advantage
you don't have a dominant shooter vs any of his defenders for patient
your advantage is your big man
patient probably not best for you

Thanks for the answer. From what I have read in some older threads an idea would be to play a SF on PF position in which case my SF's big JS would be an advantage over the opponent OD(I guess his PF's OD is not very high). The drawback would be that I will lose a lot of rebounding and ID. So I am still not sure what do to, maybe I will go with base offense.

I cant say about your game but i have been running paitent for 7 -8 season. The system will find the best shooter for the job, it also a slow tempo pace but with some passing and hi qaulity shots.. Your pf and center should have a monster game. The system is based on mitch matches in the defense, no matter how strong they play you..

RUn & gun is a uptempo fast pace sytle, its not really finding a quality shot unlles your sf and sg are absolute beastly and high skilled. I would recommend having a sg . sf with some rebs and passing but not alot but some alot( a scoring point guards is just a deadly in run and gun also paitence). Becuase your going to be missing shots and second chance point is what the tactic is really about. Not just jacking up the score in a fast pace, hopefully you have fast players and pf who can shoot the jumper. Like i do.. It pays to have those in run and gun.. Also strong defense is a must

Because as you miss shot you give other a chance to get back in the game. If you have the better speed& jump shooters and rebs and defense edge play run and gun.. But hi defense is is very important in both. becuse if cant get rebs or make baskets your team is wasting the overall clock and your chance to win.

I think that people forget how patient is supposed to work. Patient is supposed to be a balanced offense. Its merely a more selective version of base offense. If base offense looks for a shot with, say, a 40% chance of success, then patient looks for one with a 60% chance. The reason one player ends up taking all the shots is that its very hard to get that good of a shot on a regular basis, so when it doesnt find one it defers to the best shooter.

So to use patient in its most effective form, and the one it was designed for, I think you need no holes in your lineup. If all five players have the ability to shoot, it multiplies your chances of finding a 60% shot by 5. You also need passing across the board so that when these shots do become available, the ball can get there from any position. This is why high OD kills it because if you cant move the ball, you aren't going to find open shots.

IMO, if one player is taking all the shots in your patient offense, or you are using it merely to create a mismatch at one position, you aren't using it right.

Maybe I should rephrase that you "You aren't using it the way it was designed to be used"

It may be effective in that form, but I dont think thats as effective as if the offense were actually balanced, the way its intended to be.

i think it find the best for situations not just 1 scorer overall in the game but indeed you will be using your best shooters making taking shots. I cant say for certain. i have played better team with good od, ill say paitince is very smart skill kept tactic.. It not all about 3pts. its mid range shots too not alot guards have inside defense :). Like siad having good passing team is the key.

tell you what. Inbox me we shall friendly and we can dis cuss during the game.
