Is it better to focus on just guard training, just bigs training or both?

Most of the times you should either focus on just guards or just big men. I think there's something to say to have 1 of the other as 3rd backup trainee (so 2 guards and 1 big), so you can play a trainee at his natural postiion when you do out of position training for your main trainees, so you can perform better in games. Normally if you want to train inside scoring for guards, you need to play them at center which isn't very effective. If you have a 3rd trainee that's a big, you can play him in a game you need to win. When training guard skills just play him in your scrimmage so he doesn't hurt you. This way you can build a nice backup SF of sorts with your backup guy.

Otherwise, just guards or just bigs.

I believe guard trainees can't really hurt you played at C for IS training. They won't be effective, but they'll defend their natural position. And you'll need SFs to accommodate that.
Bigs played at PG is another story, as low HA and PA will lead to TOs.

That's why you'd start SF training with guard skills.

I've only ever trained guards though and try to squeeze IS training during easy (or impossible) weeks.

For me I am training three 6'8, 6'9, 6'10, and 6'11. I got three main trainees I drafted and three other suitable trainees. In my case I'm doing one on one forwards or pressure training for the time being.

I think it does not matter what you train. Just keep in mind that your trainees usually lack skills. So a lot of times its best to focus your offense around your better players either inside or outside focus.

For instance, my best trainee is a 6'11 Superstar PG. He probably won't convert to inside skill training until he is 20. But at some point he will make a great PF/SF.
