I am still very new to this game and am trying to plan ahead abit. I am currently looking to upgrade my point guard position, I am torn between waiting and drafting one or purchasing one on the TL. My question is how good are the initial skills of draftees? I suspect I will be picking around 4th or 5th in my league.

Any help is appreciated.

What levels do there skills come in around? Is there a max for draftees? Should I expect the skills to be around strong or worse?

Also do you know when the draft list comes out?

Thanks

Draftees skills cannot be better than respectable (except for free throws, which can be proficient, I think).

If you're going to be drafting high, or your league has a lot of bot teams, you can expect to get a player with multiple respectable skills. However, up to now it was difficult to draft a player in a specific position without investing a significant amount of money in scouting. Maybe this will change with the upcoming changes in the draft system for this season.

Which reminds me, when are we going to hear news about that? It's a only week until the draft order becomes active.

My #1 pick from the first season was a starter from the day he joined the squad, and has been on the All Star team for his conference both seasons. My #2 pick is a very solid backup/trainee. It doesn't bother me if he has to come in in case of an injury or foul troubles for the starter. The 3rd was transfer listed after I bought some FA.

My #1 pick from last season would be a starter except he plays the same position as the #1 pick from the previous season. I was able to sell the #2 pick, and the #3 pick was fired. I drafted #14, 30 and 46 out of 48.

BB has announced that there will be a change to the draft this season, but not the details.

In the past, you could not draft for position. So you could as easily end up with a young center as a PG. You basically know that some players are good, some are not so good, and some are unknown. Other teams will have similar information, but about different players. So even though you pick 4 or 5th, there is a very good chance that you will get your #1 pick. I got my 3rd pick drafting 14th last season.

Note: I do not know that you will be able to draft by position this season - just that you could not in previous seasons.

Because every team will get 3 draft picks, there could be a big influx of players on the TL after the draft, either the draftees themselves, or players displaced by draftees. So maybe you could pick up a 23 YO PG after the draft, who might have better skills (but less potential) than a 18 YO kid who took his place.

You don't have to use a "point guard" as your PG. In general players are classified as PG rather than SG because their passing and handling skills are better than their shooting skills. But you don't want someone who can pass the ball but who is a hopeless shooter or can't play D. So you might want to consider finding a SG with "good enough" passing skills.

I could've sworn that there was a thread where people were posting the stats of their draftees at the beginning of this season. In digging around for a few minutes, I can't locate it, so I'll give up. I know it's there, though. Either here or we had one in the USA forum.

In last seasons Draft I got my # 1 and # 2 Pick. So I was very happy until I found that the A+ #1 pick was 19 years old. As he was center and I train forwards I sold him but It was not very much I got for him. If he had been 18 years old it would have been a lot more.

So I think age of the draftees makes the draft very random and not worthwile to spend a lot of money on as it is a gamble if your draftee has the right age.

I agree that it can be a gamble atleast with the current setup. I finished first last season and this season I will finish 1st as well wich means last pick so I didnt even bother to invest in the draft...

Wouldn't that be why you SHOULD invest in the scouting? To get a better picture on who's good enough for your team. If you don't scout anyone you will have even less chance to put any good ones in. I finished first last season and picke two players that was good enough for the first team. One is now mentioned as one of four possible national players after next election.

Sometimes I think, sometimes I don't

Not really because I invested the maximum amount for an entire season, and my pics weren't that good. With the money I could've saved I would have gotten atleast one real good youngster to train. I mean if you're focussing on NT players etc. then by all means stick to the Draft system... As a numberone team it's simply not the best option in general... Let's see how the new changes will be
