I know at age 40+ the player becomes virtually useless beyond scrimmages.
Highest salary on waiver at 42 = 5000
Highest salary on waiver at 41 = 5000
Highest salary on waiver at 40 = 8000
Highest salary on waiver at 39 = 20000
Highest salary on waiver at 38 = 28000
Highest salary on waiver at 37 = 109000

From my experience at age 37+ the player starts dropping considerably. I would say at 39+ the player falls quicker than a trainee can train per year on average. At 35 I would say its about 1/4. At 33 I would say its 1/8.

I do think there is a random factor though. Some players probably have a hidden attribute that determines at what age they will fall more quickly. I could be wrong though. It could just be random chance with some players just getting unlucky at younger ages. I am testing out my theory with a player that took a huge hit to salary at age 33. I want to see if he progresses as quickly downward this season.

I had two 34 year old this season. One dropped 2 points in handling...that is all. He actually gained salary some. The other dropped down about 5K salary. Both the same salary to start with.

I think the player's skill set has something to do with it. For example, if Player A has 15 IS, and Player B has 10 IS, Player A would experience a faster drop in IS. That is what I have heard.

A well rounded player is going stay good for a while.

I can agree with that. That example I was referring to was of a player that wouldn't be well-rounded.

That doesn't guarantee that he will lose his skills quickly. Some players drop skills faster than others.

Based on my completely unscientific evidence, I'm fairly certain 34 year old player will diminish more quickly than he did at 33, diminish more quickly at 35 than he did at 34 and so on.

As I understand it, it's all about probabilities. So it is more likely that an older player drops his skills fast, but it can happen to a younger guy too if he's unlucky. However, players under 31 or so practically cannot drop a skill (stamina is a different case, everyone is likely to drop it about once a season if not trained). As said before, in addition to age, skillset might have an impact on the dropping (well-rounded less likely to drop) and possibly there is a random factor behind all this too. So it is normal if your player drops some skill two levels in one week and after that doesn't drop for a season.
