I have a player who has a Jump Shot of inept and a Jump Range of mediocre and who is 7'2" and has been shooting well over 40% from the 3 line. I have a 7' player who is shooting just above 40% from beyond the arc for the past two season who has a JS of Strong and a JR of inept.

Conversely, I have a player who has a Wondrous JS and a Strong JR who is only shooting 30% from beyond the arc and a player with a prolific JS and prominent JR who is shooting 28% from downtown.

One difference is the Game Shape, both are Mediocre, whereas the former 7 footers are both Strong. The Wondrous JS is 6'4" and plays Small Forward. A bit small for the position. But this doesn't seem to fully account for the disparity. Otherwise, I'm just not sure why this is happening.

Thoughts?

The big men are probably shooting against typical big men who have no OD to speak of. In BB, it's easier to make a shot with a bad defender guarding you than it would be to make the shot if it's open.

Maybe bad defenders yell words of encouragement?
"Take your time, visualize the shot going in & make sure to follow through. I believe in you [player name]."

I just always assumed that they got their hands up where the bad shooters normally aim and thus had to adjust their shot and it actually went in. Or they're screening the goalie, if BB swiped the GE from some hockey sim.

No. But the data spans over two seasons. Like you, I had dismissed as an anomaly last season as well.

If that's the case, shouldn't all Centers shoot really well from beyond the arc?

My comment was deleted? Hmmm. I don't remember posting here. Oh well, I'm sure it was inappropriate as usual.
