This is a thread to identify why the numbers of Active members in Buzzerbeater has dramatically dropped in the last 6 months and what can be done to turn around this decline in the number of active Managers.

May 25 2013 and I started an excel spreadsheet to assist me with my Buzzer beater flag chasing quest and recently upon looking at this spreadsheet from only 6 months ago, it became apparant that there had been a really sharp drop off in the numbers of active members.

Back then I listed the number of active managers from all 98 countries and when I added them up, it revealed a total of 39,965 which is 8,117 more than the 31,848 active members that are listed as being part of the game today November 27th 2013, in the Communities Forum on Buzzerbeater.

Yes I may have made some mistakes (unlikely) and yes it probably is a quiet time of year leading into finals and Christmas, but statistics dont lie.

This thread is not to attack the game but instead try to come up with some ideas which might again increase its popularity, so if you have an idea or suggestion, please put it forward in this thread.

Now for some examples of the decline in numbers in different countries

Australia 462 now down to 410
Argentina 881 now down to 712
Canada 344 now down to 268
England 346 now down to 243
France 2220 now down to 1837
Israel 703 now down to 506
Lietuva 1702 now down to 1443
Polska 2522 now down to 2246
Turkiye 1919 now down to 1219
USA 2624 now down to 1925

Why has this decline in numbers happenned in such a very short time (less than 6 months) and what can be done to fix it?

For me the game rewards tanking too much and new users are left with a very long road to get anywhere.
My son signed up today and is disappointed at the level of his players. He looked a my side and feels it will be ages until he can have a chance to beat me. Not sure what can be done but there should be a someway to make new users enjoy the game quicker. For me all new users in Australia should go into Div IV and only take on new users or bots.

And all people who demote from div III to Div IV who have played more then 3 season should be put into the same league in Div IV. With only 1 or 2 of the 16 getting back to Div III means tanking becomes a poor option as you could be stuck in Div IV for seasons.

To me the most enjoyable part of the game is training players, but there is no encouragement to do so.

Young expensive Centres who are on National teams and who have taken several seasons to train are ridicuosly dirt cheap, thus making training an economically poor option

I agree
When you can buy a 200k+ C for less then 50k seems a bit of a waste for seasons of training to get to that level.

Maybe make the top level of new players start at 10 instead of 7 but make training a bit slower. So the basic players do not stick so much

Perhaps a Quality Management System might help.

Ask Active Managers their thoughts and what they like about the game &

Follow up Managers who have become inactive and find out why

Also some statistical anaylsis, who are the Managers who are leaving, are they long termers or are they new starters?

I had a friend sign up sometime ago. Got an 18 year old MVP big in his 1st team and then less then half a season later got a 18 year old HoFer and did not even last 2 full season before his team went broke. It was all too hard to compete with people who have played for seasons and seasons and had buckets of money.

I have argued for a long time that new players need at least one good young prospect on their team that they can identify as a franchise player and become attached to. When new teams start with nothing beter than a 19 year old 6th man they have to get random guys from the TL and it reduces the attachment to the game. I think all new teams should start with 3 trainable players of age 21 or less and at least star potential. At least one of them should be no more than 19, $3,000 or higher salary and at least perennial allstar potential. You can pick guys like that up on the TL for $1 but being given one, your guy, your foundation player is so much more classy and fun. Being given a roster of worthless duds just is not fun.

Good point but in some ways its now easier than ever to climb through the ranks because of the capping on arena sizes and the cheap prices of players.

The biggest disadvantage that new Managers face is their lack of Knowledge in the game.

If I was to start off in Div IV, I reckon I could rise through the ranks a lot quicker than what I did the first time around

In some ways I believe that the game has got better, but such a rapid fall off in numbers is really really scary.

Will the game live long enough, to be totally dominated by my trainees?
