I was just curious what people plan to do with their Utopian Team. Buy players for promotion, go for big arenas and tank for the first pick, focus on training? There are a lot of paths that one can take starting out so I am just curious to see what people are likely to focus on at the start.

A lot of what I do will depend up my starting rosters but I will probably try to promote and train right out of the gate. If I can win and raise ticket prices I may be able to get my arena going later in the season or next season.

Since all players will start in div 4 and div 1 to 3 will be empty and in div 3 its way more income than in div 4 i bet everyone will try to promote first season. Best thing may be to train 3 guys and buy 2 old ones. Who doesnt promote first season is left behind economicly and for him it will be very hard to catch up.

I could see some people trying to tank for the first pick and selling him for some big money. That can backfire though.

I like your post, I'm already interested in what people will do...
It also will depend a bit on my 1st team, but I will most likely get 4/5 young guys of low potential, and go for 2 position training...in 1 season or 2 when they start getting some "prolifics" I will be better, but I don't know yet

I think the talent of the trainees I get will determine most of the plan. But in theory I'd like to be able to put as much into the arena at the outset as possible and try to keep salaries low. Is it possible to do that and not get left behind? I'm not so sure.

If I luck into a great trainee, I might even sell him and use the profit on arena and pick up a couple talents to move me a bit ahead of the pack. It's so hard to know what the talent and money situation will be like. A good Cup run could make a big difference, too.

I'd like to think that I'd sell my trainee if I started out with an amazing one, but for me, I'm thinking... At some point down the line Utopia might have a national team of some sort and how cool would it be to have an original player on that national team. Even if utopia never does have a national team, keeping an original player is something I had the chance to do but didn't know what I was doing the first time around so I sold him off, when I wish I hadn't.

I plan to experiment with different strategies a bit. For example, with my current team my mindset has always been that 14 guys at decent skill level beats 5 guys with insane talent and some scrubs. Now, I'm not going to totally swing the other way, but I plan to carry 8-10 strong players on the roster, and only 1 or 2 scrubs. I'm hoping that I won't have to pay much for players early on, and if that means I have to wait a season to promote, so be it. I'm toying with the idea of tanking first season, but more likely I'll make do with what I'm given, build arena, and eventually look to promote twice in three seasons to be in D.II by Season 30.

Does anyone remember how many players a new team is given originally? I can't remember...

Yeah.
1-2 trainees (hopefully)
2-3 other non-sucky players
13-15 scrubs
