Suprisingly, this strategy didn't hit me until today. It was sort of an ah-hah moment. I was actually thinking about my next steps and it made me realize a strategy that will keep your team competitive long-term. Because as you will learn, I base almost my every move for the future. Anyway, what made me think about this strategy I keep referring to is what I was going to do with my uber-talented PF Jordi Zurita. He's a 22 year old hall of famer with tremendous skill. This talented prospect is stuck behind two players a few notches above his caliber, and they're both only 27. Needless to say, he wasn't going to be starting soon. So what did I do? I put him on the transfer list for 800k (Check him out, he's on sale right now), which got me thinking, If I sell him for 800k, that will give me about 1.2 million in the bank. And here's where my untested strategy (by me anyway) comes into play. With that 1.2 million, I could buy 2 younger, super prospects. One with the intention of starting for my team, with the other with the intention of selling for approx. 1 million so that this process could be done all over again. So basically, sell a prospect, buy 2, and so on and so forth. This way, you're never really spending any extra money on a prospect every 2-3 seasons. This gives you a young superstar every couple seasons which will keep you competitive. And the beauty of this whole thing is, YOU CAN QUIT AT ANYTIME! If you decide you've had enough, you can either sell both superstar prospects for an enormous profit, or keep them both and reap all of the benefits.

Example:

- Sell Jordi Zurita for 800k (have 1.2 million total)
- Buy 2 Prospects (Let's say PG Adam Smith and SG Bob Barker)
- Train both guys hardcore
- Keep PG Adam Smith
-Sell SG Bob Barker
- Repeat

I'd like to keep this a running forum so please include any holes in the strategy, advice, personal experience, etc. Thanks and good luck!

I see your point. Although if I sold both bigmen, I would have a giant hole at Center. Also, I'm starting to doubt that Zurita will sell for the 800k he's listed for anyway. But yeah selling both Ian Kosta and Marek Kutzreba would leave a giant hole inside. Both of them combined would sell for less than 1 million most likely, so it's just less profitable. This strategy just keeps the roster fresh with young talent, talent than can replace the veterans in a few seasons. Good point though. Let's keep this thread goin!

I'm aware of the shortness of players situation. And I'm more obliged to do what you said, possibly. Mainly because I would save about 90k a week in payroll, it's definetely worth checking out!

I see this working more if you are training SFs and only purchasing SF height prospects....

I am doing something similar though not yet with the selling and I have not yet bought any trainees either in those spots... All homegrown there currently

Hey you gotta start somewhere right? And I think it can work with guards or big men as long as the two trainees are the same.

Agreed... but overall it'd be easier if you did it with SFs... Cause then, you can have the bigs or guards as needed based on training as well. and that way can "almost always" play with the best possible lineup you can.

Yep. That's a good point. One SF prospect to train with another guard/big man of your choice. Definitely something to keep in mind.

Training and selling players is definitely a big part of building a contender. The other big part is building your arena. Every time you add to your arena, you are increasing your future earnings.
