From memory part of the reason that the Utopian League was started was so that additional money could be raised, that was to be put back into promoting the game so that more Managers would join.

I estimate that an additional 10 to 12 thousand dollars was raised from the start of Utopia, which is hardly enough for an expensive television advertising campaign to be conducted over multiple countries.

However that does not mean that contra deals which potentially could cost nothing cant be explored or orchestrated with potential advertisers.

Anyways I am just curious as to;
How much money is being allocated to promoting Buzzerbeater in the next year ?
How this money will be spent ?
What "no cost" marketing strategies and techniques are being used.?

How about we have an option in our menu (index) where by we can send an invite to a real life friends email account, to join buzzerbeater?

Currently we have a refer a friend option that uses facebook, why not broaden this so that an invite can also be sent to a friends email address. (Not everyone that people know are on facebook)

Perhaps also an option where by at no cost, we can send to a real life friends email address, a season of free supporter and invite to commence the game.

If the "word of mouth" of existing managers could be harnessed and targeted towards those likely to get hooked playing the game, then the number of Managers could quickly grow at minimal cost.

More Managers equals more advertising money for the owners of the game

This could be a thread where managers could tell their 2 cents about how we should save BB from extinction.
The last good idea rocked.
That was Utopia.
I think that if we could come up with another great idea then we could get even more managers playing.
There is somebody who has an idea.
There are many people who look at the forum there is bound to have a good idea.

Yes you are right.

if the buzzerbeater owners were to discuss their ideas or thoughts on marketing and promoting the game, perhaps one of the current Managers might be able to brain storm another great idea.

Conventional marketing methods I dont believe are going to provide the answer as they are too expensive, but some how if we could use social media or word of mouth, then massive growth could be possible

I think that Buzzerbeater should put together micronations under 30 users who speak the same language to provide micronations with excitement.
Many users quit after finding out that this game is too easy.

I think this thread should be in the suggestions forum.

Oh, I thought the problem was that people hated to have other countries beating you in games.

Well I'm hoping(expecting) that BBs are already thinking about how to invest those 10k dollars into BB. I think some major changes are coming our way. With that kind of money, it would be a waste to throw it into making a simple mobile app. I'm guessing BBs are currently considering some landscape-changing innovations to the game. And they probably take a while.

10K is hardly anything. Dudes could blow that on a good dinner and a couple of hookers. But if money were to go back into advertising I could highly recommend investing in google keyword searches.

You mean SEO, right?

As a matter of fact, BB does very well in terms of SEO. That's how I managed to find BB, afterall. Type Basketball Manager Sim and BB comes 3rd, after a single player game and a site with reviews. In just "Basketball Manager" search, it's 4th or 5th. So, I don't think there will be any huge improvement if they throw money into SEO or Google ads.

Facebook is the way to go: Target people who like Basketball, I would narrow the age field too, in order not to target very young persons (as I think most managers in here are around their 30s) to fit the age with the pace of the game and they seem more willing to be supporters, I'd even target based on their tech behaviour.

As a plus, I'd start issuing press releases to baskeball sites/blogs/forums too. Nothing special here, but having a site myself (irrelevant to basketball), I know that most sites appreciate free content. A banner exchange proposition to some of these sites/blogs/forum wouldn't hurt either.
