Q) If I had a 18-19 yo player with and Hall of Fame or all time great potential, would it make more sense to hire a world renowned trainer or keep a regular trainer?

Either. A better trainer just means he will get better sooner, but a regular trainer can still get him to the same point. I would just stick with a level 4 trainer personally, but it would be up to you obviously.

I see that recommendation a lot -- level 4 trainer. How is that arrived at, through researching any data, or just subjective judgement? Thanks.

Tends to be the most salary efficient for what you get out of training. Or at least that is popular belief, since the prices for a level 5 are a lot more normally with minimal advantages over just having a level 4 trainer.

The difference between a lvl 3 and lvl 4 trainer are pretty small compared to the next step, lvl 4 and 5, both in purchase cost and salary wise. I believe a lvl 5 trainer is only 3-6% more effective as a lvl 4 trainer, while they cost twice the salary and purchase cost.

You call that "standard of good"?? That's 137 TSP at the minimum!

I understand that if my prize rookie gets too good too fast I soon won't be able to afford his salary anyway. So one other thing I suppose I should consider, just being at Div IV, is selling Ervin (18yo potential Hall of Fame 6'5" SF) and getting a couple of cheaper guys to train, maybe just MVP or superstar potential. I suppose I could get good money for Ervin -- how much would anyone guess? That money would go a long way for a Div IV team.

Yeah selling him is a good option. Can't tell what money he'll bring in but it will certainly be several 100 thousands.
