Why are third quarter's often so different from the other quarters. There is often a huge discrepancy in points in this quarter.

Many members of the BB community want to know why this is..

****BAD ENGLISH AHEAD*****BAD ENGLISH AHEAD*****

well this is the reason that if i watch games i watch third quarters.
If u win first one with more then 15 points, in second quarter first 5 mins are played with beckups and opponent can kill the advance...
In third quarter your coach gets a note and recalculate the things, and this is your chance to win the game...if u miss the chance you lose...

I have notice that if you play good at first quarter, then you play slightly in second. Then you improve in third and try not to lose...

IF:

1st quarter is vary good for you (15+ points difference)
2nd quarter will be in sort of +3 points for you or even -5 to -10
3th quarter will be balanced (even the opponent can make tie game before quarter break)
3th quarter depends a lot how does 3th quarter ended...If the games at the beak is tie or even if you lose it you can expect the tie game and OT or even lose with small difference..

well this do not apply if you play versus bots :)

THIS IS MY OWN NOTE so please do not "eat me " with critics

PROOFS : For tie quarter i accept difference =<5

good 1st perfect 2nd bad 3th tie 4= lose

good 1st bad 2nd good 3th tie 4=lose
(78549881)

bad 1st good 2nd tie 3th tie 4=lose
(75990845)

tie 1st good 2nd tie 3th bad 4th=lose
(75990909)

tie1st tie2nd tie3th tie4th=won (lucky shot)

Well if you or someone else can explain this:
(78735403)

Third quarter lost 11-25, I entered the 4th down 17. Less than 50 seconds from the end I was down 7. I won the last quarter 37-20 and went to OT where I won it.

From a quick look, fouling out their SF looked very beneficial.

It sure did since the guy playing at SF is the one who scored the most in the 4th. 25-11 in the 3rd with me having better all around defense was surprising (and so was the 17 points comeback)

It's just a quarter, there is a thing called variance that causes results to be off from the mean if the sample size is small even when all factors and variables point to another expected outcome.

Besides variance, it could be because of substitutions. If you're the better team but your backups end up playing a lot in a quarter while your opponent has his starters in play, you can lose the quarter even though you're the better team overall. Again, it's caused by a small sample size, and in general, you cannot draw conclusions from small sample size.
