FML Radio, a little late this time around, but still as good as ever. This week we are coming to you live from Arizona. It's a bit stormy here but the show must go on.
The beginning of BuzzerBeater can often feel like a storm. There is a big learning curve and as we have seen from the trend in users fewer and fewer people are choosing to battle that storm... in the desert... (Anyone picking up on these subtle hints?)
This week we brought in a manager who was able to find success quickly, reaching the NBBA in just eleven seasons and has learned from some of the best. Now we get to learn from....
GM-Jason!

Chek: Jason, welcome to FML Radio!Jason: Thanks!! I’ve really enjoyed reading the show with all of your interviews and it’s fun to actually be part of it this time.
Chek: So who is the real Jason?Jason: Jason: I’m 42 years old. Single Dad. I raised my son my since he was an infant, he’ll be 18 years old in July. I was a Stock Broker for 6 years, exiting that profession shortly after 9-11, and I’ve been in Real Estate ever since. I’m also a published Author, and my book is in the process of being turned into a TV show
Chek: How did you become a GM?Jason: My entire start to BB was pretty fortunate. Like most new BB players I made a mistake right out of the gate, bidding on a player who’s Auction didn’t end for nearly 3 days, and by the next day regretted the bid and wanted to “undo” it. It’s laughable now to think such a thing would be possible but I contacted GM-Brian to see if that could be done. Obviously it couldn’t, but Brian and I had a BB-mail exchange and I asked him to mentor me, and he graciously accepted.
I had a supporter question and contacted BB-Edju, and we quickly became friends. Also, Pappy was following some of my Press Releases and reached out to encourage me. Within 10 days of starting this game, I was mentored by Brian and Pappy, talking with Edju, and that got me involved with guys like Coco, Wozzt, and others.
I loved the game from the beginning and had some early success and was conversing with the right people, and when Brian didn’t want to be GM anymore, he suggested to Edju to let me take his spot, and the next thing I knew, I had a GM in front of my name. Once I became GM and interacting with Edju, I had some opportunity to get to know BB-Mark, one of the creators of the game. I even had dinner with Mark one night when he had a lengthy lay over in Phoenix, and I ended up doing a little marketing for BB. On one occasion, I flew to California and met with Paramount Pictures on behalf of BB to sell a concept of making the new Transformers movie a sponsor of BB. Nothing came of it, but it was an amazing experience!!
Chek: How did having that advice early in your BB career help lead you to the success you've seen today?Jason: The biggest single thing that advice did for me early is that I didn’t make “normal” mistakes or waste time running my team in an unproductive or inefficient way. Almost right out of the gate Brian hammered in the importance of Enthusiasm, Game Shape, and Training management. In the Lower divisions you can pretty much cruise to a Championship if you simply manage Game Shape and Enthusiasm
As for today, all of those early lessons and advice were the building blocks for how I run my team today. I have competed for Cup and NBBA championships with trainees as a core part of my team, whose salaries are in the $15k to 18K range. I call it the “Play now, and pay later plan”. These guys who are already productive for my team, are getting better each and every week, and yet I pay a tiny amount weekly for them.
Chek: What was the last TV series you binge watched on Netflix?Jason: Friends :-) It's my all-time favorite show!
