After picking up two easy draws for the opening games of the consolation tournament, I am very confident we can go a good distance this season as we have an exceptional squad. After starting the Utopia project three seasons back, myself and a few others (Vecx, Zeus, James and Crossley) have managed to create a good bunch of players that can hopefully land us some glory. We have some extremely strong big men, some great guards who can do a bit of everything and some gifted and versatile small forwards.
After watching the first game, it backed up a few of my evaluations made before the game. We blocked shots superbly, recording 12 collectively and six different players contributing. Additionally we moved the ball well, accumulating 20 assists from 32 shots and despite the caliber of the opposition, we did defend well, limiting Guatemala to a shooting percentage of 23%. However, there was a little worry in the rebounding department as Guatemala edged us on the boards - although GS for some of the big men wasn't as good as I'd have liked.
Next, we have Pakistan which should be another relatively easy game and then we'll see what we are drawn with in the next round of games in the consolation tournament. Game shape is good this week with the majority of players at 8 and above, so that's a bonus - good work to all trainers out there.
