Especially if you lose a trainee who's slotted in as starter and backup, the coach ends up playing the least qualified guy for that positiion, rather than moving someone to make a better lineup.

This is always a risk, since BB was not really designed to promote one guy playing 48' in one game.
Think that you are telling the coach that he should strictly follow your orders. Since there is no order when you have the same guy in the three positions, he just pick one randomly.

This narrative is a bit odd. If you want to maximize training you have to play the full 48 minutes per game. Pretty obvious some teams would go that route.

Prioritizing training against a possible better line-up. It's their choice. Pretending that this should be changed if something goes wrong would make the one position training a no-risk decision, and that is not the intention at all.
