From what I understand from my local LA, BB is supposed to work with name databases taken from HT. However, from what I can see (at least as far as the Bulgarian DB is concerned), there are errors either in the DB compilation or in the name selection.

In HT, the names for Bulgarian players are pulled from the Bulgarian (89%), Turkish (10%), and Armenian (1%), or something to this effect.

However, something seems broken in the process. I have seen numerous player names that seem to come from neither of these possible name sources. Examples: (4806269), (2836014), (4806270), (4806300), (4806287), (3142200), (3142216).

From what I understand, at least 1 senior staff has acknowledged that this is a problem. Is this being worked on? Has anyone else noticed it for their country, or is it a local phenomenon here?

we are hoping in the future to setup an interface to let LA alter the name database and change the makeup of players.

we are hoping in the future to setup an interface to let LA alter the name database and change the makeup of players.

That'd be great, it works very well in HT. So what is the situation right now? Do various countries pull from different DBs depending on their national makeup, or is name formation 'static' and based on a single country DB?

Also, can you clear up a bit what causes the poor name choices? Thanks

right now we have an names database with "ethnicities" and countries pull from a distribution across these ethnicities... i'm not sure where these errors are coming from.. i'll look into it. could be the data is wrong... meaning its pulling from the wrong distribution or the ethnicities could have names that aren't appropriate.. or there could be a bug in the code.

Thanks for clarifying. I guess this is not a critical issue, but it is nevertheless unpleasant.

Cheers.

Wow, yes, the distribution of names that we've had in place for Bulgaria is way off. In addition to the Bulgarian and Armenian names, which are appropriate, we've also been assigning African, Estonian, and Welsh names.

I have reset the distribution of names for new Bulgarian players. They will now be principally Bulgarian and Turkish, with a very small minority coming from Armenian and Russian.

Thanks for pointing out the problem.

yeah the same in Lithuania...

Lithuanian players draw mostly from our list of Lithuanian names, but also occasionally from our Latvian and Russian lists. Unlike Bulgaria, the problem here is probably just that our Lithuanian list is not very good. Like Forrest said, we may in the future ask the LAs to help us improve our lists.
