All 7 of the new teams in my series are from dIV. Not a one came from DII. Anyone else experience this? Just too many bots falling from DII?

I think that's the case.
NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke
Charles: Penn has some good people
A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

But not enough to bring me up? That's the other part I didn't understand.
Where's jimrtex when you need him? I'm sure he's got a bead on how many bots fell and how far.

There were 14 bots in D.II, but 10 of them relegated naturally (6 of them finished 8th). So there were 6 live teams that relegated from D.II.
The other 4 bots from D.II and the one bot from D.I passed through on their way down to D.IV. So there were only 5 spots open for secondary promotion from D.III to D.II. The 5 teams were 1st place conference teams that did not win their playoff, selected based on their regular season record. It appears that they had 20, 19, 19, 18, and 18 wins. There were 6 teams with 18 wins, so it appears you missed out on point differential.
I think this will be fairly typical pattern from now on. If a team goes bot in D.II it will be more likely that the team isn't doing so well to start with. Most D.II teams that go bot will have some FA players, and will suffer because these are their star players. And even if they don't lose any players, they will be predictable for other experienced owners in D.II.
In D.III there were quite a bit more bots that didn't relegate, and add in all bots from D.I and D.II, you get 30 extra promotion spots. Plus about 1/2 of the leagues in D.IV are all bot, so they had a team promote to D.III and then were instantly relegated.
It appears that the threshold for secondary promotion from D.IV to D.III was a 2nd place finish with 17 or more wins. I think that in past seasons, some 3rd place teams had promoted.

I knew I could count on you for that analysis. Thanks for it!
Bottom line: I need to win more games.

I went from D.III to D.II, and frankly I'm wondering why. I did win my division or conference or whatever you want to call it, but lost in the playoff semifinals to the second place team. Seems like he'd have more of an arguement to promote than me since he wound up in the finals.

The bot cleanup promotions are dependent on regular season results, not playoffs.
You finished at 20-2, so you got promoted.

Not to get off track, but how does one tell a bot team from a human run team?

From the overview page. A human run team would have the name of the user next to Manager: while a bot would say "Managed by a computerized player"
Your team:
(23517)
Bot team:
(29506)

You missed it by that much (holds index finger and thumb apart to indicate 55 points).
There were 6 conference winners that had 18 wins and did not win their playoff. 2 of them won bonus promotion, along with the 2 19-game winners, and 1 20-game winner. The PD for the 6 18-game winners was 427, 398, 343, 306, 295, and 234 points. You were 3rd with 343 points.
