I disagree that it should be an automatic or almost automatic 3 game week. The teams still in the Cup are typically not training and are competing, so the training minutes argument isn't the same. We also don't see automatic 3 game weeks during the playoffs for teams that lose in the first round, that are swept in relegation series, or are 8th in their conference.
I think it is fair and is only one week during the regular season and you still have to deal with 2 game weeks after the regular season too.
