Hello,

I have a little question about players being fouled out. What are the "rules" for a player to make fouls ?

I sued to think that a player is more likely to get fouled out if his defensive ratings are low. However, experience doesn't prove that to be right, and now I have the feeling that a player is more likely to get fouled out when facing stronger opposition.

E.g. my starting PF Gois (3632023) makes an average 2 fouls / game which is quite ok. However, as soon as he faces stronger opposition he gets sent off early :

and most incredible, yesterday's game : http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/99788097/boxscore.aspx with him being fouled out after 7 minutes (!)

I'd like to understand what makes a player take fouls, in order to try to "control" that a little bit. Having to face any challenging game without my big men is kind of frustrating, especially since they behave so well against lesser teams.

Thank you in advance !

I'm confused at what you're asking. It makes perfect sense that any defender would perform better a majority of the time against lesser competition, but would struggle and foul more against superior competition. Happens both in BB and IRL.

I once had a team with 1757 players and was $25,835,360 in debt. This is not that team. Join the Discord group open to anyone, but especially for USA managers to improve your club or get involved with the U21 and NT programs (https://discord.gg/cKpNkt2).

This is absolutely true.

I just wanted to know if foul chance is somehow related to defensive ratings of the fouling player, or even better how in the game engine are fouls calculated ?

I'm pretty sure I could avoid some of them with more careful planning.

If your player has low defense skills then more offensive opportunities will go against him, leading to more chances to foul.

OK, so this is about defensive ratings, nothing about respective handling of the opponent vs defending player ?

Also, sometimes having good defensive skills against a relatively poorer player can cause fouls to pile up for more aggressive players, as it seems like they feel like they have a better chance to make a steal or blocked shot and therefore try to do so.

OK, thanks for your information.

There's much to take into account, but now I doubt I can have any influence on that. Too bad, but your info are worthwhile nevertheless !

It is widely perceived that more aggressive players (the ones that foul out often) do get some kind of a defensive boost. So one thing to do is get his defenses to high levels (in order to magnify the boost and also have less attacks against him), but seeing that your guy is 28 y.o. that ship has sailed...

Having decent subs for your more aggressive players is another thing to consider. Increasing stamina will also help a little.

There`s not much else you can do, though. Sometimes it`s just a matter of luck. I had a guy foul out in just 10min: (94468749) in the most important match I ever played in BB and he wasn`t even foul prone. That might well have been the first and only foul-out in his career. Not the case with your player, obviously but my point is - don`t get angry, if nothing helps and he still pisses you off - sell him, let him do it to someone else!

Good luck!

A bit late cause *away* but thank you for the feedback. I was suspectng that higher defense players were less "foul-prone" therefore there's little I can do expect buy someone else.

Seeing that it also happen in very important games of yours seem to correlate that fact that these players struggle with fouls when facing stronger opposition (which is perfectly logical as your colleagues pointed out earlier).

I didn't think of stamina however, I might give it a try, that's true that he isn't too heavy on that.

@Westri : if this turns out as it should, once your player os correctly levelled up defense-wise, you're trading trouble now for reward later, which is usually a worthwhile trade :p
