How does the game engine decide the best matchup when playing patient? Is it decided by DMI, TSP or Salary?

but it also looks at the defender , doesnt it? like if my best JS DR IS guy will be guarded by a lockdown defender ..is he still gonna be the one taking all the shots?

It is hard to tell how it will decide to play itself out. The ideal is for a mismatch that the GE exploits. The optimum result is when a shooter gets lined up on a man with poor OD and the guy just goes wild and drops, 40,50 (92964934)
,85 (75713339) but if your opponent goes zone or the mismatch does not materialize then your boned. There is of course the aspect of a flaw in game logic where a outrageous lineup IE SG at C can lead to something insane, but also in my book it is a risky way to live.
