It depends what you want to achieve. A player with 17/17/17/17, if possible, would be one of the most expensive players in the game. Therefore you really should try to keep one of the 4 inside skills low-ish.

For the same salary (you need 10 potential) you could go:
- 19/18/16/7
- 14/18/16/19

So I'd say you are creating a false problem: choose the skill to keep lower and go from there depending on potential, height and age of your players. IS is the most expensive of the 4 skills, therefore if you choose high D and lower IS you will get a higher TSP in inside skills.

The players above have 60 and 67 inside TSP respectively. Those 7 missing inside TSP will probably go in outside skills so it's not going to be wasted entirely, as you can add more offensive skills like DR or JS (which also will cost you money, so be sure to check the final build you are looking to achieve).

Also note that to have a big man like that with such low SB you will need to get a player with the right initial skills as well because keeping SB under control and that low will not be possible if the player is born with decent SB.

For me SB and ID should always be close to each other's levels. I'd never have an inside player with low SB. And though I'm out of step with the rest of BB, I don't care if I play 2-3, 3-2, or MtM, I want SB.

Well he has seen his share of high SB players :). Gully had Jagermeister and there was a Polish player a few seasons ago in our league with 20/21 ID/SB.

My C had 18/18 (got a drop in one skill now) in ID/SB. I was always wary of using 3-2 because I thought he was too foul prone to stay in the game. Also if you have that much D it means the offensive side is a bit lacking. So I've always rolled with another big man who could score.

I guess SB in just one player is unuseful.

I don't usually like to just pick out a small part of someone's answer but in this case I don't disagree with you, I just didn't make myself entirely clear in my answer because I was replying too specifically. I completely agree with what you say in this quote, but I'd quite like all my guards to have SB too. Certainly one player with SB will leave your opponents picking on the player without it.
