Yes that's correct. The bonus to gate receipts for bot promotion is nowhere near the same as the bonus for actually winning the league. However, if you promote you have higher base gate receipts, of course.
D1 might still be a little better than D2 assuming you are trying to maximise your income (i.e. stay near or below the salary floor), but the difference isn't as huge as it used to be before the last Salary Floor hike. So, other than the cash prize, bot-promoting and then immediately demoting, might result in lower profits than staying in D2 as a top team. Not accounting for potential boycotts in the higher division.
