Can we balance the home court advantage among human teams during the middle 8 inter-conference matches?
This is the second full season since I created this team. In my league, there are 3 active teams in the west and 2 in the east (me included). And among all 12 inter-conference games I witnessed, all west coast teams got the home court! I feel that this is kinda unfair, both in terms of standings and in income.
To my understanding, the inter-conference matches are set up as below.
Let the west coast teams be A1, ..., A8 (assigned randomly at the beginning of season), and the east coast teams be B1,..., B8. The games are arranged as
----A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 A8
B1 oo xx oo xx oo xx oo xx ----G8
B2 xx oo xx oo xx oo xx oo ----G9
B3 oo xx oo xx oo xx oo xx ----G10
B4 xx oo xx oo xx oo xx oo ----G11
B5 oo xx oo xx oo xx oo xx ----G12
B6 xx oo xx oo xx oo xx oo ----G13
B7 oo xx oo xx oo xx oo xx ----G14
B8 xx oo xx oo xx oo xx oo ----G15
Here, oo means eastern team advantage and xx means western term advantage.
Let AO={A1, A3, A5, A7} and AE={A2, A4, A6, A8}; BO={B1, B3, B5, B7}, BE={B2, B4, B6, B8}. Then the above table simplifies as
----AO AE
BO oo xx
BE xx oo
If all human teams are in AO and BO, then eastern teams get all the home court advantage, which results in the bias.
As a fix, I hope that rather than being random, human teams should be distributed evenly in AO and AE; and in BO and BE.
