In the BB Mobile App forum, Alonso brought up some good arguments that I agreed with in principle... (308837.4)

But since that discussion was also derailing that thread, I thought making a new one here would be better. I should also acknowledge before I continue that several players have said in the favourite BB features thread that they like the game because the game world doesn't advance too quickly...

With that said, I've long argued that a major reason why BuzzerBeater won the war with Charazay was that the latter tried to make a 17 week season work, and players got bored of it quicker than they did BB. This is one reason I have on more than one occasion proposed schedule tweaks that would allow us to fit everything into 13 weeks instead of 14... (271276.1)

I think it becomes too difficult to make the season shorter than 13 weeks without major changes to how the game works (game shape especially), so I can't see Alonso's 1.5/2x server speed idea actually happening. But we should remember that the web-based manager genre is 23 years old now, and in that time, the internet and how we use it has changed in almost every way. HatTrick's slow 16 week season was fair for it's day, but now your average user demands more from online forms of entertainment.

With that in mind, I think it was a good thing to bring up, even if the best we could do right now is 13 weeks. Also, Joey's 3x3 sub-game idea in the post before that was a great suggestion, and something that even veterans could enjoy if done right. A single-player streetball campaign that people can play through at whatever pace they want is something I could see myself playing and liking.

The point is that, this broader idea of game speed is something I've long thought was worth talking about, especially for user retention but also in just making the game better all-round. And with that, I hand the floor over to whoever wants it.

we should also consider how fast people consume and discard those forms of entertainment

a faster buzzerbeater may excite new people more than the current one, making them stay, which would be good
but i don't think in the long run people who like the game would stay longer, in fact they may get bored faster

Even so, attracting more users, even at a lower retention rate, would still be a net positive for the game compared to the current situation. I think we've passed the point where we can just be content with the game as is and expect the situation to rebound.

I'm agree with you and JoeM for one more game, maybe not short to 10 weeks, but put another round with the opposite conference and after the playoff or playout as is now. Another think that I will change (an enourmous part, I know) is the advancing age, that the players got a number of days to grow up, not the end of the season, that could turn the game a more realistic one and also a better transfers market.

From a personal level, one of the things I love about this game is I don’t HAVE to get on every day (I typically do, but I don’t have to). The slower nature of the game is actually a benefit I think.

I think what kills the game is the two game weeks. Having a game on Saturday and the next one is on Thursday, that should never happen. The good and entertaining game should try and get the users to log on daily and having that big of a gap between games in dangerous. ALSO, The teams still alive in the cup and playoffs are getting a MONEY bonus plus a TRAINING bonus.(three game week) To me, that isn't fair and probably leads to people just not logging on again.
And this past season was the first time I hadn't logged in for 4 days, I was almost done but my brother called me and told me to set my line up for our scrimmage.
My conclusion is......fix the two game weeks before shorting the season.
