I've been thinking... As a way to discourage tanking would it be worth adding prize money for league standings at the end of the season? Say the two 1st seed teams receive 250k, 2nd seeds 200k and so on until the bottom teams get 0.

The league is the only competition where you receive no money unless you promote, which makes it difficult for those teams stuck in the same league for a long time.

Pros of this, 1, discourages tanking, 2, provides money for teams to improve their teams for the next season and 3, makes the league season actually matter for money not just home court

The only negative is that it would probably increase the TL prices.

I didn’t think about the attendance and merchandise boost for when your team is winning. My question would be how much actual difference to income does it make? Is it only 10k a week total, so 160k a season? That doesn’t feel like much to reward teams trying to win.

I just thought that rewarding standings would stop people tanking the 4th seed to finish 5th, or tanking in general as they’d miss out on more money.

With teams getting money when they promote it gives them an advantage in the next season over the other 10 teams still in that league who did t receive any income for surviving in their league.

The Game Manual states:

A hoarding tax is implemented in order to discourage passive team managers. All teams in possession of over twenty-five million dollars will receive a weekly 10% tax to every dollar above the 25M mark.

How about adding another mark for a lower weekly Tax... e.i. 10M is a weekly 3% to 5% tax to every dollar above 10M?

and then I think we can talk more for additional Income from matches... or even little cash incentives from Scrimmages.

I think the profit you get from a MVP/HoF isn't too bad. Might not necessarily be 250k , but it should still be better than than the prize money for at least third place, so there will still be rewards for tanking if it isn't high enough. That said, bump it even higher, it might cause an imbalance in income for teams which don't plan on tanking but are just not good enough to compete.

The way to discourage tanking for the draft pick (or merely tanking) is to scrap the current fan boycott system and introduce one based on point differential. If conditions are right, you can still tank for No. 1 pick without boycott in any part of the season, which is the real problem here.

Kinda agree here. As someone who's been tanking eternally against bots (sorry, I have a micronation so that's the only way to prevent our MVP/HoFs from dropping into the hands of bots) I generally get 3 wins a season except on seasons where I don't have enough scouting points to invest in the draft. There is still a financial hit tho, due to my league being almost all bots (hence the TV contract is so low) and due to the losses I rack up, my merchandising and tickets are low (I earn about 70k per week now, and it's shrinking due to my ever increasing staff salaries) so tanking is not all a bed of roses.

As for people tanking to finish 5th, that seems very counter-intuitive as it's more than possible that this way they would be paying their salaries one week more than the 4th seed that gets bounced in the first PO round. I don't think any measures to discourage such behavior are necessary, apart from maybe informing people they are shooting themselves in the foot financially that way.

Yes, I agree with this. In fact the current system was implemented to discourage people to tank for 5th. I can still remember in the early days when I would lose my last couple of games if I feel I don't have any chance to progress in the playoffs so I can save up on salary since the fifth place didn't have any games. I don't think that's a smart choice anymore now.

Tanking for the 5th seed is the ideal that you get 2 matches of attendance income while still paying salaries, and as you face the 7th seed it should be an easy win so there is little risk of relegation. Finishing 4th your likely to only get 1 attendance income that week

lol way? 10M is 2-3 guys.

I did not get it sir... can you further expand the thought?

Yes, I believe too that 10M is too much to keep... and currently there is no system to stop teams from holding Millions until 25M. But if BB will add Tax to Teams that hold above 10M for every dollar that exceed that too... it would be more challenging for those teams to reach the 25M mark where currently the Hoarding Tax starts.
