Hi everyone.
I wanted to make a suggestion so I opened the thread.
What do you think about adding 'specialties' to some players?

With this specialty they would have a small improvement (half a level? a level?) without affecting the salary.
Example
- position (improve rebounding )
- fantasy (improve passing)
- determined (increases defense skill)
- leader (boost team morale)

etc etc .. you can invent many but I have listed a small example.

I think it can bring fresh wind to the game and revive the market.

Thanks in advance.

Roberto

That's pretty fun. Although I would prefer something less straightforward and nor directly linked to skills, like the "leader" personality you mentioned. They could also have adversed effects for balancing purposes. Some other stuff we can add in are like:
- streaky shooter: he get hot and carry your team but randomly have cold streaks. Experience might lessen the chances of cold streaks but it shouldn't be too significant. I kinda thought of this because the best player in my U21 would suddenly be the worse player on the team even when he's the only one at proficient game shape, despite putting up monster performances in the last few games.
- prima donna: plays better as a starter but terrible off the bench. I have seen a few players like this in BB. They go on fire every time they start but off the bench they basically miss everything.
- super sub: the opposite of prima donna. I haven't really met such players in the game tho.
- talisman: when he's on fire, the whole team performs better. But when he's cold, the whole team plays worse. To simplify things, 5 hits/misses in a row would be the trigger and the improvement can be in the form of something similar to CT/TIE, except to a smaller degree.

I undestand what do you mean.
I think your suggestion is very interesting but hardest to implement than mine.
These are interesting suggestions, I hope that thread will be receive more feedback, maybe from BB-dev what they think.

Yea I was just trying to expand on your suggestion. It's definitely something that can add an extra layer to our gameplay experience.

The reason why I preferred more intangible boosts was because having it link directly with skills might cause some skills to be more position dependent. Imagine having a PG or SG with a rebounding related specialty. Sounds kinda worthless when compared to a C with rebounding specialty right? It would also put a premium on certain players eg: rebounding specialty Cs would see a huge increase in price while those without rebounding specialty might not be worth anything in the market even if they would have been perfectly good trainees in today's market.

Meanwhile intangible skills are applicable to any player in any position. It's also not any harder to implement - do note that I used existing parameters in the game: performance boosts/nerfs can be a fraction of the TIE/CT effects, while streaky shooter can just have an extra RNG/dice roll into the existing shooting formula.

But yes, it would be great to have more feedback so we can explore this further.

What about something with the rock-szcissors-paper structure? Maybe it's easier to code:

There are three types of players: Mental, Technic, and Physics.

The Physics player performs better against the Mental player, the Mental player outsmarts the Technic player, and the Technic player excels against the Physics player.

By this way you will have some different kind of players to match with the opponent. And this is impopular, but I rather prefer if this thing is like a hiden skill that you only can notice by the live.

Your suggestion is good btw, but I think some of them are already have its effect in matches. They just don't show it to us obviously, like streaky shooter and talisman. This has its effect on most of the players, but greater on the star players in the team with high agressiveness ( which is also hidden).

Your view on adding prima donna and super sub is good in my opinion. I think this will give managers a better idea that which player will become franchise player and which player tends to play better at sub even he has the highest salary with HoF potential. This way, managers will know who to train best in their management plan.

I have a player (50827696)
when he plays sub, he's averaging 12.2pts per game in 17 minutes.
However, when he plays a starter(or 48 mins), his average only rises to 14.8 pts per game in 44 minutes. (based on self-calculation)

He performs better at bench than starting. He just didn't take up much more shots when he starts, which i don't know why, given that he has the second-highest salary in my team with the best offensive skills. He may be a super sub this way.

BTW I think 'hot and cold streaks' already has its impact in game for the team. Even for the player. Because the team will lose points when they have a player is in cold streaks, and forced to let other players to shoot who's shooting and scoring chance are not as good as the cold streaked player. If the star player of your team is in streaks, I think this even has a bigger impact to the team as he takes up the most shots.

This is great! It proves that we need to use our brains to play, not only paying high salaries :)

However I think if it is really implemented, the players' type should be only known by the manager of his own team.

This is a great idea. It should be patterned to hattrick where a specialty has both upside and downside.

Like a speedster that can drive by players better, but has more TOs.
Or a high flyer who has increased % for shots inside the paint, but lower outside shooting.
6th man. Has better stats when he comes off the bench.
