If a player gets sold by your second team then comes back on the transfer list within a season or two (or even just weeks) then it's almost the same as selling them directly to your primary team.

I think the current situation is fine, but if it was to be changed I'd propose a significant wait period of say five seasons before you are allowed to buy a player who's played for your other team.

I'd assumed another reason was so managers couldn't purchase a second team, then use that as a feeder club to train players with specific skillsets/nationality they want for their main team.

If the transfer is not direct, then why not, I have no problem with it, +1

This is where we hold them!

1000% agree with this.

Frankly I'm not sure I see the need for a buffer period either. If the player is sold 1, 2, 3 or more times in the span of one season after I sell him, what's the harm in letting me buy him? I would be bidding against any other buyer on the market...

Exactly. But this problem is already eliminated by banning direct transfers. What would be the benefit of imposing an x season long waiting period (5 seasons is a LONG time...)?

There is still a risk that the someone arranges with another manager to buy that player, then continue their training as instructed for x number of seasons and then arranges to sell you the player back to your first team.
