There has been a lot of talk about managers only want to train MVPs and HOFs, but this season showed that lower potential players get some love as well. Yes, two of our best players have only perennial allstar potential, but they're one of the best players we've ever had. In fact, I don't recall a time where our top 2 players break 70k in salary. Both of them are in their 3rd season as U21 players, and let's hope it ends with a bang by qualifying for the knockout rounds of the Consolation Tournament.
Our season definitely kicked off well today, with both of them putting up pretty good statlines. Loo Rong Liang almost had a double double with 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Li Wai Soon put up 15 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks to overtake Toh Chun Yao in the all-time rebounding list. He's now 16 rebounds behind 5th place Faruk Tachangya. If all goes well, we might even see him overtake Yang Keng Tse on the all-time rebounding list.
Also putting up a great performance was 2nd year player Li Kim Choon, who hit 22 points off the bench. Debutee Nicholas Victor also put up a super efficient performance, falling short of a double double with an amazing 12 point 9 assist effort. He shot 100% from field tonight.
Well, the win over Guatemala U21 was much expected considering our quality difference. However, we will face goliaths Turkey U21 next week. Despite being ranked 4 spots below us, but their squad totally outshines ours. Let's hope we manage to put up a decent fight.
