I need some help trying to figure out training, since I have had very little success in being able to predict which, if any, of my players will ever train up in any area. This week is a perfect example of why, even with the many many threads on this topic out there, I just don’t know how to go about planning for training.

This week, I was training PF/C for Rebounding. Here are the players that played at PF/C by minutes played this week, with their position/age/height included for comparison:

91 minutes PF/19/6’-11” Nicholas Gaffney
63 minutes PF/19/6’-11” Delfino Garrido
60 minutes C/25/6’-11” Luca Cassia
59 minutes PF/19/6’-9” Jimmie Alonzo
9 minutes SF/21/6’-5” Erick Paz
3 minutes – 2 other players

Of all the above players, only got a tick up in Rebounding. Can you guess which one? You’re wrong, since I’m sure you didn’t guess Erick Paz. These 9 minutes played by Paz, by the way, are the only 9 minutes he’s played all season long so far. Of this group, there are 3 19-year-olds with at least 59 minutes, one with 91 minutes, and of the 5 five players above with at least 9 minutes, the one guy popping is the shortest with almost insignificant minutes played. The only thing that strikes me as something that could mean something for his training is that Paz grabbed 3 rebounds in those 9 minutes, so maybe his rebounds-per-minutes played is important. But then, Cassia grabbed 25 rebound in 60 minutes this week, which is much more impressive.

But seriously, I’ve had a number of weeks in the 3 months I’ve been here with what I think were unpredictable training results and, after a week like this, I can’t help but think there’s no point in even trying to figure this out. Can someone tell me what the heck I’m missing here?

To fill in some other background, Rebounding is a stat that is lagging in both the PFs (both inept, lower than almost all other stats). Only the C, Cassia, has decent rebounding already (respectable).

If I understand what you’re saying, then, is that training levels are rounded. So what probably happened is that that the one player that popped probably had a Rebounding level of, say, 6.4, and his 9 minutes of playing time got him to 6.5, so he popped to respectable. And similarly, Gaffney probably had a Rebounding level of, say, 3.5, and after 91 minutes, he’s now somewhere about, say, 4.4 in Rebounding.

Am I starting to get it?

No.

In order to receive the maximum possible training at the training update, a player must play in a training position (in this case, PF and C) for a minimum of 48 minutes. Any less than 48 minutes means he gets less training. Any more than 48 minutes gives no extra benefits.

In addition, levels are not rounded up or down. A player with rebounding of 6.0 has the same displayed level of skill as a player with rebounding of 6.9, but the second player will be the better rebounder.

The player of yours who popped was, it seems, very very close to repectable rebounding (around 6.99 or something) and is now very low respectable rebounding (somewhere near 7.01).

Okay, so I then I did sort of get it, except that I just didn't know that minutes towards training are capped at 48 minutes.

So in training considerations: 9 minutes = 9 minutes, 24 minutes = 24 minutes, 48 minutes = 48 minutes, and 91 minutes = 48 minutes.

In this case of training:

A player has 20 minutes in PF plus 29 minutes in C, the total of minutos is 49.

Let´s imagine that i´m training Inside Scoring for PF/C, this player will have the full training?

Or he has to play 48 minutes in a given position to have 100% of training?

If you train more than one position, a player will get full training if his minutes combined in the trained positions is 48 or greater.
