I don't really understand this rating. Most of the time i'll look at a players line for that game and if it's good, he'll get a high rating, if he's played badly, he'll get a lower rating. Fair enough.

Sometimes a player who seems to have a fairly poor line for that game will get an amazing rating though.

Look at the BBB game between Abrantes Basket and the Springfield Drunkers for example (6026310). There's a player for the Drunkers, Mazzurana who gets an amazing 16.5 rating and the most noticable thing about his 14 minutes on the floor are his 4 fouls.

There must be something i'm missing....

Same to me, although i´m playing in a low serie.
I got an inside plyer, who is about 2 Skills stronger (in IS, ID, RB, SB) than anyone else i have, but frequently has a lower ranking.
Next to that, i just had a look at our german 1st league. Have a look at, for example the game from Wisbaden Wonbads (no.1!) from the 12.06.08. The ranking are a little like of our top teams in the IVth league, even if we play TIE. For sure, his rooster is much stronger than our ones (judged by salery and DMI), so even with his worest players he should have way higher rankings!
So maybe the player-rankings are a little in caomparison to their skills?!
I don´t get it really neither.

I think players with few minutes have more variability in their rating. It could be that somehow Masszurana's defensive skills were also considered. Maybe it is missed shot by his opposing player?

Defense definitely affects player ratings.

A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score

indeed!
Iif you play a team with a star, who prevents your own player from scoring, BUT your player also manages quite well to hold this star away from many baskets as well, it's only normal your player gets a good rating.

They are not your friends; they dispise you. I am the only one you can count on. Trust me.

I don't get this at all :s
I mean, looking at my starting PF stats in this game ((4252961)) I'd say that he did a great job, however, he was rated only 4.5?
Sure he had a 4 personal fouls to his name, BUT shouldn't 12 points on 6-9 shooting and 10 rebounds along with 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block grant him a bit better rating then just 4.5?

P. S.
It's not that those ratings really matter to me, I mean, if I'm personally satisfied with my player performance, I couldn't care less for them, but it's just too odd.

It seems that personal ratings are mostly based on a player's skills, not his game stats.

That's not true.

Defensive performance plays a big role in player ratings, and that generally isn't quantified in a boxscore.

Yeah, I guess so, but that's stupid :/
Player ratings shouldn't have to do anything with player current skills, but only with his performance on the pitch.

Player performance has everything to do with player skills. For this reason, player ratings and player skills are irreversibly intertwined. A player's performance reflects how he played against his opponent: I'd say a PF who scored 12 points but allowed the opposing PF to score twice that many has done well to get a 4.5 rating.

What puzzles me is that if we look at higher divisions and better players the stats would be mostly the same (which makes sense) but ratings are a lot higher. So defensive performance is solely responsible for the difference and skills don't contribute to player ratings whatsoever, correct?
