One of the things I've downloaded over the internet that I've most enjoyed is the gmail notifier. Just a little downloadable icon that sits by the clock on the bottom right, and pops up whenever I get a new email.
Perhaps a similar thing could work for buzzerbeater -- a little downloadable icon which pops up a small notification whenever the score changes on your game.
It's easier than keeping a window open all the time and checking back
