I lost this game 73-61. http://www.buzzerbeater.org/BBWeb/boxscore.aspx?MatchID=1000977

I had a higher stat in every category: outside scoring, inside scoring, perimeter defense, inside defense and rebounding.

My matchup ratings in every position was MUCH higher than the other teams:

PG 81.2 - 75.4
SG 77.0 - 68.0
SF 93.8 - 79.7
PF 115.3 - 73.4
C 102.5 - 62.6

How in the world did I lose this game? I want to know for future reference.

Plus, I have a guy that has a 3 week injury but yet played 13 minutes in the game. How can that happen?

i agree.. the high turnover rate is reflected in your poor offensive flow.

OK so turnovers. I lost by 12 and had 6 more TO's. His FG% was about 30%, so even if he scored on 50% of those TO's that is 6 points (he went 0-10 from 3 PT). I chalk it up to a fluke. It doesn't make sense though. Ok so my offensive flow rating was low but even so he was 27-80 from the field and 0-10 from 3 pt, how is that for offensive flow?

Anyways, why did my team just start chucking 3 pointers in a base offense? I had such an extreme advantage from inside, so why did the "coach" realize that and stop the players from chucking 3's? I've played an inside offense before but then I get no 3 point attempts at all. So I figured a base offensive would be more balanced, but going 3-22 from 3 point range is reaelly really bad. Do the game engine adjust for in game advantages? Isn't that what a coach should do with a base offense? I guess besides for those questions what is the definition of a base offense?

He also sunk 8 more FTs than you...so those two advantages give him 14 more points. Two more than he beat you by. And your FG percentages are similar.

Yeah I can do the math. If a team beats me by 5 points, I know I can look at the stats and figure out that he made more shots than me. Great. But taht doesn't answer the question as tio why he made more shots than me when I beat him in every category and my players had better skill ratings than his across the board.

It is like, for example, the Miami Dolphins beating the New England Patriots next week. Yeah you can look at the numbers and say, well the FG kicker kicked an extra FG so they won by 3 points. The bigger question would be, why was the game so tight to begin with when the skills of the teams are in favor of the Patriots in every position. So I'm trying to to figure out what, in the game engine, is being weighed MUCH more heavily than it should be. If I can figure that out, I can use that to my advantage in future matches. The TO's and the FT's aren't the answer in this case. It has to do moreso with indirect things such as home court advantage .

*shrug* it just looks like the ratings may not take FT percentage into consideration, and his was far superior. It's apparently an undervalued category...after all, FTs were (if I remember correctly) something like a quarter of his total points.

so we tried versions of the GE that did this.. that made the optimal decision as to whether to take an outside shot based on what kinds of shots they had gotten recently (inside or outside.. taking the 2 vs 3 points into account as well). what this resulted in was a lot of teams never taking 3 pointers. Obviously this is not a realistic strategy. What I'm going to be playing with this season is to go back to this.. but then also make it so that if you aren't taking any 3 pointers than your inside shots are going to become less effective, and vice versa. Hopefully this will create a situation where a team will take enough 3 pointers to be realistic and keep the defense honest enough, while still allowing the team to take advantage of its best option.

Now to be complete in my analysis.. there is a school of thought that says that this sort of game engine is TOO smart.. and doesn't make the user dictate what the tactics are. If the AI figures too much out for you then someone who spends a lot of time thinking about tactics and what to do isn't going to have much of an advantage over the user who doesn't think about it at all.. and that's poor for gameplay.

that is true btw... the matchup ratings do not take FT shooting into account. That should perhaps be adjusted in.
