Relatively new player, been in the game a few weeks now and starting to get the hang of how things work. I've made the decision that I'm going to work on training guards, so I have 5-6 decent guard prospects (mostly 19 yo's) I'm ready to start training. I also had two young big men who seemed to be good prospects; I put them up for sale and between the two they sold for around $400,000 (which shocked me).

So I now have ~ $800,000 and honestly don't know what to do with it.

I inherited a Div. IV team that was 1-7 at the time. We've gone 5-2 since I took over (and one of those losses was a 5 OT loss!) so my team is now 6-9 which leaves me tied for 6th/7th place in my league.

I'm looking for some advice about how to spend my money. Even though I'm not selling out my arena yet, should I go ahead and expand now so that there is room to grow? Should I invest a LOT of money on one or two really top-notch trainee prospects? (The trainees I have now are all ok...typically of the major guard-relevant attributes, they have some as high as "respectable" and then others quite a bit lower...the kind of guys I've been able to buy for $30,000 or less.) Should I invest in buying some better/stronger (older) players at C, PF, or SF? Should I just sit on my money for now?

Any general strategic advice would be greatly appreciated!

You could consider step trading your guards.... as they pop (lets say in OD which is arguably the most valuable skill on the Transfer market) sell them and then buy better 18yo trainees for the longer term....

You could also train and sell gradually and replace with 3 amazing trainees instead of training 6 as it is the top of the market which is going to be the most sought after as training slows down. Training 6 people will mean that they not that likely to stand out when you come to sell them and therefore not as profitable as the 3 trainee option....

If the transfer market deflates further you will be able to pick up future batches of trainees much more cost efficiently as well...

Invest anything you can in training.

Investments in training include reasonable trainees, optimised training slots and coach. If in doubt about best affordable quality of (existing) trainees better upgrade them. Any compromise in trainees/training will cost a lot of money and performance.

Normally the same for coach, but we see a change in the staff-system, so no valid advice at the moment.

Any other investment has a slower (and lower) return. Postpone it. Seriously.

You have a chance of getting a pretty decent draft pick position. Are you scouting at all?

Yes, I've been doing some scouting. First week I think I put the minimum, then since then I've been doing the maximum. Is there any good established strategy for this? Since I likely will have a decent pick, should I be dumping the max possible into scouting from now until end of the season?

Not sure, I usually scout 2-3 player per week. But I'm in a higher division and will probably have a pretty bad pick.
