I'm a new player looking to do training with guards, perhaps focused on either PG or SG (not sure yet). Either way, I am wondering how important it is to get guards with some rebounding.

In other words, if I am looking at an 18 or 19 yo who seems like a good prospect in terms of his guard skills (passing/handing/OD/etc.), but has "atrocious" rebounding...should I avoid him? Or would it not make a huge difference.

On a similar note, what about passing for a shooting guard? I recognize it's a much more important stat for point guards, but still...even in the lowest level leagues, do I really want to be playing (and training up) shooting guards with really really low passing (or ball handling, etc.) skills?

rebounding isn't too important for guards. your rebounders should primarily be the power forward and center positions with the small forward chipping in. if you're training guards you should probably use passing training. it would be a mistake to not let your point guard get better at passing and it doesn't hurt when your shooting guard can as well. i don't train guards but that's what i would do.

I disagree....

If you can get rebounding then go for it. I find for resale it definitely helps and also ingame there are always a fair amount of rebounds contested in the guard position. If you can edge these or even dominate them 70/30 or 80/20 this will make a significant difference to the possessions/potential score.

Also, as your guards improve in OD (and may get an improvement in ID) if they have reasonable ID and RB when you buy them they can make great SF's and help give your team another dimension from a tactical perspective.

In short buy your trainees with as many skills in as many areas as possible for the cheapest price you can!!
