when you don't have any players left on the squad for some reason (injury, foul outs etc.), a fan wears the jersey and plays for your team.

and I believe all his/her skills are atrocious (1), so best interest to insure doesn't happen

I am sure you are right, but it has happenned to me once and my lucky fan had 9 boards which was better than almost all my players. In this case I was as lucky as the fan but I'm sure that doesn't happen a lot.

It doesn't matter in scrimmages barring if you want to win blow out way for some reason. As long as he plays it is not a walkover.

Nothing is more priceless than lucky fan making two handed slam dunk. Yes, it happens.

in scrimmage my friend's lucky fan made a clutch 3 pointer which could even be a buzzerbeater... :) he got 3 lucky fans on the floor that time :D
