I don't understand the bonus indicator when viewing games live.

That's for foul shooting. Once your opponet has fouled you enough, you will start to shoot free throws for non shooting fouls. So your player will get one free throw when fouled not shooting, and if he makes it, he get's a "bonus" second free throw.

Close to correct, but all fouls after the bonus light is on result in two free throws.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't know it was always 2 shots. Maybe I should pay more attention when I watch the games.

Yep always two shots, as is the rule in the NBA. In college, starting with the 7th you get a "1 and 1" on non shooting fouls, where if you make the first you get to shoot the second, and then on the 10th you just get 2 shots.

Actually not, offensive fouls don't result in free throws in any case, whether you're in the bonus or not ;)
