I think unfortunately, if the FT is atrocious, and no training has ever been done, the FT% can quite bad.

I think unfortunately, if the FT is atrocious, and no training has ever been done, the FT% can quite bad.

Fortunately, pitiful/awful free throw shooters shoot about .500, so it's pretty easy to fix this -- just a couple of FT trainings in the off-season will do.

One of my players who is proficient at free throw also shoots at around .500 while another player I had is inept at free throw but shoots close to 0.600 :( Am I just really unlucky or is there some explanation? :P

Fatigue seems to have a significant effect on FT shooting -- poor stamina players who have played tons of minutes tend to miss more free throws late in games. Additionally, you need a sufficient number of FTs shot to be able to make reliable inferences about expected probability -- above 30 FTs shot is an absolute minimum, above 50 is recommended.

And of course, there's always the luck of the draw. Even the most improbable outcome can happen to someone.
