(http://www.nbauniverse.com/awards/nba_scoring_leader_year...)Since the mid-1980's only 3 times has a player other than a SG lead the league in scoring, once by David Robinson and twice by Shaquille O'Neal. Oh, and two of those scoring titles came during Michael Jordan's first retirement...
In previous generations, the game was such that a 7-footer had a bigger advantage than today since the average player back then wasn't quite so big and strong as the modern player. Today, even Wilt Chamberlain I suspect would have a hard time piling up the points having to play against (all be it less talented) big men his size every game. Let's face it, Shaq has been able to be dominant largely because he is so, well, large, even compared to the other centers. That advantage helped him win those two scoring titles. But these days, it takes a big man tremendous size, like a Shaq, or a unique blend of size and quickness like a unique Daivd Robinson had. (Makes you appreciate Robinson a bit more putting his scoring title as a center into perpective, eh?)
Just thought I'd throw some hard facts into the mix.
Don't ask what sort of Chunks they are, you probably don't want to know. Blowing Chunks since Season 4!
