Unfortunately, due to the way data is read in the MatchViewer, we cannot determine which part of the name is the surname. But, the good news is that we can abbreviate all parts (words) of the name but the last (which I did). The MatchViewer has been updated to that new code so you can see for yourself. Hope this makes it better.

Not perfect, but unquestionably a lot better.
Cheers!!

"Aziz, liiiight !"

Let me complain about the fix.

Properly spelt names are now truncated in the viewer. Exemple, my Ben Abdel Aziz has become B. A. Aziz...
It's ruining my evening. Seriously. I badly need a slice of apple pie now.

edit : even worse, Le Potier is now L. Potier...
My league mates will scoff at my players name now :'(

+1

I completely agree with you.
It was a very bad change.
It is urgent to get back to the old way.

I disagree. This change is for the better.

Take the example of someone named Juan Carlos Maravilloso

You remember him as "Maravilloso" and you tend to forget the first name "Juan Carlos".

Yet in the old system, his name would appear as "J. Carlos Mar..." Really? If this is someone from the opposing team, do I have to go through his roster to find which player's first name is composed of two words, the latter being Carlos and the former being something beginning with a J?

The main problem with the old system is that there wasn't enough room to display the surname properly.

The new system gives a lot more space for the surname, and yes, the cost is that composed surnames will have their first word abbreviated.

But I'm confident there are more composed first names than composed surnames.

Would you guys consider doing a poll on which system is better? I suggest making a poll with a certain time limit and the result will be implemented.

EDIT: Another idea/improvement: if the second to last word is shorter than 4 letters, it will not be abbreviated, all other words before that are abbreviated. This would be kind of a compromise and maybe an option in the poll.

How about Chinese and Japanese or any other people whose surnames are usually in the front of their names? One of my players' called KG during the game now, but he isn't so happy with his surname abbreviated. KG still sounds cool though...

Anything other than displaying the full last name is not a better system.

If we go for a compromise, the old system was actually easier and well thought for a majority of names.
A better compromise would be to let us choose how to abbreviate our player's names but I can't see this happening.

Look at Ashurri's last game, it's a good exemple, almost all the players have their name truncated.
I know it's a side problem and not quite important. Still the change is worse than the initial problem.

How do you look at your opponent's players if not by going through their roster ? Filter by first or last name and here we go, what's the difference ?

Look at the live of this game, it's full of exemples : (39839964)
How do you find : P. D. Carlo (De Carlo), A.H. b. Ismail (bin Ismail), K. G. Quiang (Guo Quiang)... How is it different than looking for a J. Carlos ?
What do you think of Pascal Le Potier, shortened to P. L. Potier ? You know how ridiculous it looks while in the old system it's was correctly displayed.

edit to add : in your team, I count 0 composed first names and 3 composed last names.

Marin.
I have a suggestion to make:

1 - Example: Rui Pedro (names) da Cruz (surname)
Now appears as "R. P. d. Cruz" :(

2 - Example: Nuno (name) de Andrade (surname)
Now shows: "N. d. Andrade" :(
Before: "N. de Andrade" :)

Why not having it abreviated to: "R. Cruz" and "N. Andrade" - wich means cutting the last one of the names and showing only the last name that belong to player's surname.
Or, the same logic, but leaving the name's inicials with the last surname: "R.P. Cruz".

Like for example:Patrick Jones (names) Smith Jackson (surnames).
Result in match viewer: P. Jackson ou P.J. Jackson (I vote for this last one).

In the final boxscores would stay as in present.

Just an idea for discussion.
Regards to all.
