I would suggest mixing this up with staff members. At the moment promoting an old player to a staff member doesnt make sense because of the wage. Market is way more friendly if you buy a cheaper salary coach. what if we reduced the wages of retired players as staff members by ~30% and reduce the weekly wage increase by 50%, BUT only players aged 45-50 are eligible for this and if You dont do it until they turn 51, they retire from buzzerbeater move to a small town in west France and open a patisserie like they have always dreamed of.

I am 40 yo and I still play basketball in F.I.P.

I like seeing players who are older than me, they encourage me to never give up.
And then I love my old players.

And let's remember that the over 80 World Cup exists in real life.

I would suggest mixing this up with staff members.

I've had complaints about GMs and BBs but forcing them to die seems harsh.

In Nov/2022 I submit this suggestion to the BB staff and I am still waiting for an answer

I come with a recurring theme about which several proposals have been heard, the retirement of old players. My approach is to try to make the change require as few lines of code as possible, taking advantage of parameters that already exist and are being computed.

My idea is that from a certain age, say +33 years, a player has a % chance of retiring the following season. That % is influenced by 3 factors:

- His role in the team
- His injury history
- His age

In this way a player who has suffered many injuries in his career will have a tendency to retire younger. Conversely, if he has a big role on the team and gets a lot of minutes, he's likely to extend his career. And for extreme cases the last factor is age so we make sure that the +45 do not continue playing.

How to implement this? I would add one more piece of information in the player info, 'Next season: keep playing / retirement'. Then, in each offseason process, the calculation is made for each veteran player and that information is updated. In case of retirement, he will be able to play in the current season and the next one he will continue in the team but he will not be able to enter the field.

Once this is done, new possibilities are opened for veteran players, I think it would be correct to allow them to be used 1 time as club employees, others will go to the hall of fame and the very old ones can simply disappear by 'death'

33 is WAY too young. Personally, I would prefer that any kind of retiring mechanism be implemented at an age where there are surely no longer of any use to club or national teams (e.g., 45+).

Other than that, pretty much any idea is fine with me, what I don't like is the current situation in which either you keep a player until he is infinity years old, or you have to fire him. I'm not going to fire a guy that's played on my team from age 18 to age 38...

I don't see how 33 year-old is too old. We're not talking about 100 per cent possibility for a player to retire at such age. A chance of retirement should gradually grow year after year.

In fact, I find SpicyMcHaggis™ suggestion neatly balanced, because it takes into account not only age, but also injury history and role in the team. If implemented, such a system would be much more realistic than current almost-40 years olds having major roles on decent teams. Whether it's possible to implement, that's another question.
