You can look at their arena page and kind of do the math.

Last home game they made a little over $240k. They have player salaries of about 480k and I'm sure they have at least decent staff because they are training a potential future NT player. But if you look at their team history they have been around for a long time. They have a high surplus of transfer money (net positive of nearly 6 million) plus promotion and win money from BBM and promoting last season. So while they are most likely losing money each week, they can afford it because they are going to promote to D2 and will upgrade their roster a bit in hopes of going to NBBA.

BB is more of an economy game than a basketball strategy game and they've been building up over a long period of time to spend money to promote at the right time. That's how a lot of the best franchises have done it historically.

As for the older players, a lot of them probably just have sentimental value to him. You'll see some teams do that and then also some times go buy really old former NT players, etc. just to hold onto them. Doesn't really impact much since they are all under 1k in salary.

Edit: was just dropping by because southpaw was in my league last season and was seeing how they were doing. They address a lot of this up higher in the thread that I just saw.

Happy Ourer: “Welcome to the Linndale basketball pregame show. I am Happy Ourer, my partner is Joshua Doe, and there is a lot to talk about, so let’s get it started!”

Joshua Doe: “Saturday night, the boys lost to the high flying Super Sonics in a game that was a tale of 2 halves. We trailed by 30 at halftime. We outscored them by 18 in the second half. Now, I’m pretty good with numbers, and I’m aware that 30 minus 18 equals 12, and there you have the final deficit.”

HO: “It was a game Linndale didn’t expect to win, but they won the rebounding battle, minimized turnovers, made free throws… basically they did everything Pio Reina wanted them to do to have a chance.”

JD: “The only thing missing was the prolific three point shooting the team has displayed the last few seasons, and though the fans haven’t come to accept that as being gone, it shows up in spurts.”

HO: “That shooting is still there, though maybe not as prolific. The roster changes demanded a change in style and Pio has adapted quite well after a slow start.”

JD: “The defense has not been up to Pio Reina standards, but the effort is there and they are coming along. The change in offensive philosophy is what I’m impressed with. This team is more relentless with attacking inside and trying to run. It’s not exactly a run and gun style; it’s more controlled. They don’t take as many threes as in the past, but they pound the boards, they pound it inside, and they play at a fast pace. They still haven’t hit their stride, but they are taking better care of the basketball, rebounding the ball, and the pace means they are able to get multiple scoring options involved. They aren’t at the level of the recent Linndale teams, but you can see the building blocks and you can also see the developing depth.”

HO: “5 players are averaging double digit scoring per game after the departure of Serkan Sokmen. MacNeur and Koncki are both at over 11 rebounds a game since arriving, and both are in double figures scoring. There’s a battle at the point guard position between Cerri and Farley, and both have had their moments.”

JD: “The young bigs, Hatfield and Pemwieser are coming along, but neither has started asserting themselves yet.
HO: “Let’s look ahead to tonight’s game. What do we see?”

JD: “I expect Farley and Tovar to get the start, with Cerri and Knowles off the bench. The uncertainty for me is where Knowles will come off the bench. There’s a huge hole at small forward that needs filling. I don’t know that Reynolds is up to that task right now. You could see Knowles at that spot with Petriukstis playing some small forward and shooting guard. You have to find out about Reynolds at some point, and tonight would give an idea of what they think if he gets the start and performs well.”

HO: “What about the 2 youngsters, Rich McCain and Eze Donny?”

JD: “Pio is not going to let a game he sees as very winnable get away. He’s going to strike that balance of playing guys and winning. I expect him to go young with the starters, and support them with a strong second unit. If the starters play well, this game is a cakewalk. The second unit I expect for tonight’s game will either keep them in the game if the starters falter, or blow the game wide open and turn it into a rout. Expect a rout, and I’d be shocked if McCain and Donny don’t make it into this game.”

HO: “We’ll be back after the break with first year assistant coach Air Allnite and his thoughts about the guard play.”

JD: "Oh. man! I can't wait for that one!"

HO: "Well, you'll have to wait until after the break for that!"

Happy Ourer: “I’m here with first year assistant coach and former broadcast colleague Air Allnite. Air, nice to see you again. How are things as a coach?”

Air Allnite: “Hello Happy. Good to see you. Things haven’t changed that much; I still don’t like Marshall, you’re still the media shill for the team, and Pio is still a mediocre at best coach.”

HO: “I see you’re still a rat bastard, but I digress. Tell us about your duties with the team.”

AA: “I’ve been assigned to work with the guards, and am also the de facto shooting coach. One of the things I am responsible for is working with the team to lower turnovers.”

HO: “There’s been a lot of change in the backcourt this season. How are the guards adjusting to you?”

AA: “Cerri is terrible shooting and with turnovers. Farley is terrible shooting. Knowles has a turnover problem. Petriukstis can’t shoot his way out of a wet paper bag, but he’s okay with the ball. Tovar can’t shoot as well as he thinks he can, but we’ll get him there. He’s also not bad with the basketball.”

HO: “How are the rest of the players with turnovers?”

AA: “Cut the crap, Happy. You know the numbers. Sokmen wasn’t great, Reynolds needs a lot of work. All the bigs need work, Donny needs court time so we can see, and so does McCain, but again, you knew that. Frickin’ stupid question. Why do you ask questions you already know the answer to?

HO: “Who’s benefiting most from you help with shooting?”

AA: “I’d say Sokmen before his recent departure. I’m looking to see who picks up where he left off.”

HO: “A point of emphasis has been to get the team to play faster, and also have the guards attck inside more. How’s that going?”

AA: “It’s up and down. Cerri is really good at attacking the rim and finishing; if we can add range to his shot, he’ll be very dangerous. The drive and dish will be killer for him. Farley is a different animal but he’s really good at driving. He’s a better shooter than Cerri but doesn’t finish as well in the paint. McCain and Donny we’re still trying to find out about. Knowles does what he does. I wish he’d work on finishing better, but he can definitely shoot. If Tovar could finish, he might be something. He can drive. Then there’s Petriukstis… I don’t know what to say about him that hasn’t already been said. He’s a capable penetrator but he can’t finish. If we can figure out how to light his fire on offense, he’ll be a monster.”

HO: “Is there a shooter you want to work more with that is not a guard?”

AA: “Every time I ask for Pemwieser, he’s off doing drills with the other bigs. Give me time with him and he becomes a huge weapon. Give me Hatfield, and I’ll make his offense playable at 3 positions.”

HO: Well, that’s all the time we have, Air. Thank you for your time. I’m sure the fans would love to hear more from you!”

AA: “The pleasure was all yours. I’m just trying to do you a solid and help boost your ratings.”

HO: “Folks, that was Air Allnite, first year assistant coach with your Linndale basketball team and the world’s biggest butthead. The only reason he’s not divorced is because he couldn’t pay anyone to marry him first; a bride or a judge. We’ll be back after the break!”

Thanks, I didn't know saving up money is a way to shoot up the league. Not sure that will help with long term or what will happen if he didn't win this div. I guess he had enough money to try it for few seasons.

Air Allnite stormed into Pio Reina’s office. “What the hell do you think you’re doing getting rid of my best guard?” Air was livid. You could literally see steam coming off his head. For his part, Pio Reina was nonplussed.

“Maybe you were born in a barn or something, but where I come from when doors are closed we knock. Also, if you ever come at me like that again, you’ll need the medical staff to patch you up before you can collect your belongings and be escorted off the premises. Security in that case would be here for your protection, not mine. Do I make myself clear?”

Air thought hard. If he wanted to take Pio’s job, that wouldn’t happen were he to be fired as an assistant.

“Crystal clear.”

“Let’s try that again now, shall we? You have something to say, Air?”

“Why did you get rid of my best guard?”

Pio stood up. “Contrary to what you think, the head coach in this shop does not have personnel power. The head coach works with the GM. The GM has the final call. You wanna complain? Go see Roberto. Also, do yourself a favor and pull your head out of your ass; if you had been paying attention you’d know that we’ve been shopping Kyle all season. Your primary responsibility was to work with the guards. If you’ve done your job well, you should have no concerns. Are you confident in the remaining guys? I am.”

That just pissed Air off even more. “My guys are ready! I’ve done my job and done it well! That’s no excuse to get rid of my best player!”

Pio replied, “your best player? First, I’m the head coach. Second, and I already told you once, you got a problem, go see Roberto. His office is across the hall. I’ve said all I’m going to say about that. Now do you have any thoughts on what we do moving forward with the guard rotation? If not, you are dismissed.”

Air stood up. “I’ll be back to discuss that with you. I need a few moments.”
