Most teams winning the senior consolation tournament are also seed 1 to 3 after the round robin, benefitting from the HCA until semi final at least, which was clearly not the case of Nederland here. They were dead on the long run anyway, since never a team managed to win the consolation tournament with a round robin ranking lower than 17 (and it was a very big nation, Spain season 20). Nederland was 32. Please stop claiming they had a chance to win the tournament, even a little one.
So you're also in the party of the no chance. Fact checking on the U21 consolation tournament: Ukraine was 7th, Estonia 6th and Serbia 7th (that's 3 winners in the last 5 editions who won 2 games on the road, the 1st seed only won once in the last 5 times). For me going from 0.1% chance to 0.02% chance of winning the tournament is illogical and please see that in the real world there are teams at the highest possible level who won a season (which is harder than a cup) starting with 5000/1 odds (that is 0.02% implied chance). They shouldn't even have tried either and resigned to their fate I suppose?
The Serbia game clearly highlighted Holland's team is not as bad as people give them credit for. If they didn't use GDP, they'd have had a fairly good chance to win the 2nd round against Serbia too, probably as high as 50/50 and maybe more on a CT vs TIE. I like how the people who were saying things can happen and anybody can win, now are the ones dissing Holland as if they are a shitty team with no chance of winning. The simplest explanation on the last 2 rounds is that Holland is not that bad and actually their coach decisions hurt them in the round robin otherwise they wouldn't have qualified as 32nd.
Ultimately I'm criticising the attitude: how exactly are you ever going to win anything if you self-sabotage your chances? People reasoning like this, not believing in themselves and their (low) chances they will need a much bigger dose of good luck to win anything.
Darkonako knows that and estimated his team (which I consider the best in the tournament by the way) to be able to reach the semi finals without normal against USA and China. He was right and that is why he is a great NT coach.
Of course he is right, that's what I'm trying to explain: he would have been right even if he had lost. Obviously Holland in this case is the US, not Spain.
You are really not using good comparisons here (I loved the part about football world cup finals too, very pertinent),
It was trash talking which the dutch dude seems very adept at, borderline insulting people left and right when he doesn't even know what he's talking about. And it's absolutely pertinent to use the football example for people who don't appear to like winning even in their most popular sport.
I am usually in the "never crunch" team (except for world rankings maybe and except if you are South Africa and still didn't get a single win in all World Cups :P).
...like the vast majority of rational people.
