In NT i have seen this phenomean pretty often, i have starting to watch for it after seeing a "walk over" match of our NT where 8 players got fouled out. And i assume that this games was calculated like a match against lucky fans. In the end it wasn't that bad on real, but i tend to say that quality has no effect or that poor shooter gets more fouls against good defenders then the opposite way.

I have noticed recently that you hardly ever see a foul when a player makes a shot. I am wondering if that has something to do with your observation.

could be ;)

In this case the defense should work, it isn't dramatic the increase but maybe like in the sample above their the good teams fouls more often then the weak one, but in average not more then 3 fouls(which is less in comparision to the additional missed shots

Which would support my theory:

-better (inside) defense compared to the opponent's offense (+driving) leads to less fouls per shot
-fouls are MUCH more likely on missed shots

I forgot another thing that may play a role: experience.

but in the end, to avoid fouls it is easier, that you don't train defence but maybe you was avoiding succes with it too ;) The ID thing could be discussed too, my bad ass has great defence and better ID then my other guard but still manage to make for fouls per 30 minutes.

So the must relevant part is to buy "peaceful" guys.

I can't argue with that.
