alright boys, we're officially halfway through the season, let's get some power rankings done:
1. Philadelphia Phantasm - 11-0
again, you can't argue with undefeated. they're rainmakers from deep, led by a resurgent timothy fischer. 43% from beyond the arc is just cooking. the team has been on fire all season, pulling out the tough games and beating down the lower-echelon teams, apparent in their pd of a staggering +404. that's a pace of over 800! that would be a level of dominance last seen 5 seasons ago, and we've seen some good teams come and go.
2. Baker Street Irregulars - 8-3
pereyaslav kuptsov. his name is as difficult to pronounce as his play is to define. he does it all for the irregulars, and has shot himself into mvp contention. he shoots, he rebounds, he drives, even dishes... well kinda dishes sometimes every once in a while when he isn't putting the ball in the hoop. the irregulars are who we thought they were, and top the blue division as proof.
3. West Side Tigers - 8-3
maybe underrated at 3 (i debated between them and baker street for a good long while), they're right in the thick of things once again. topping the charts in collective team salary, this comes as a surprise to no one. their lack of a deep bench has cost them a bit, but remains the only question mark on the team. unless philly unexpectedly falters, they'll probably have to go on the road in the playoffs to earn their place in the title game. this was largely of their own doing, due to intentionally laying down 2 league games in favor of winning cup games. can they overcome hca? if anyone can...
4. frosty bc - 8-3
let's not kid ourselves, i've yet to play baker street, and skated by a dinged up bucsblue team. expect this to change in the near future. nevertheless, if the proof is in the pudding, then an 8-3 record and a +275 pd, good for 2nd best in the league, is downright incriminating. my squad has been led by a combo attack of tomas liutvickas and mounir ben slimane (tounes international player). liutvickas has arguably been the league's premier sniper, and slimane is a walking double-double. pick your poison, sirs. the kids are also fairing a lot better at point than i thought they would, which has led the team to not completely suck.
5. BucsBlue Lob City - 7-4
they dropped a game to yours truly due to an injury to their stud tompkins, and early in the season to homeboyz during their rebuild, otherwise you'd probably see them in the top 3 in the charts. at a minimum, up a spot. they're well on their way to reclaiming former dominance with rookie joe hilton which is SO UNFAIR HOW HE GOT HIM HE DIDN'T EVEN SCOUT C'MON BB YOU'RE BETTER THAN THAT! anyway... tompkins likely tops the mvp votes, probably followed closely by fischer. this team is still dangerous and can still make noise in the playoffs.
6. Diamantes - 7-4
they're still in pretty good shape as far as playoffs are concerned, but it must be awfully worrisome watching mitsubishi and homeboyz make a couple marquee acquisitions. while they have failed to live up to the billing as a big market, highly paid team, they're winning on 2 fronts; the league and the cup. it's a balancing act that thus far they've played well, and their bench is to thank for that.
