So - welcome back to the list of the worlds strongest basketball National Teams:).

And I'd like to ask, what's the goal of Philippines?:). What your basketball federation wants from your NT?

Thank you sir. They said that they just want finish strong in the first round and enter at least the round of 16 by winning a couple of games. Probably play strong against lower ranked Senegal and score at least one upset against Argentina, Greece, Croatia or Puerto Rico. But it would be difficult (but not impossible) because they are the shortest team in the group.

As you see, Philippines just made their way into the worlds after many decades. They have been successful because of improvements in the management of the national federation. Right now, it is more about rebuilding the international presence of Philippine basketball and being competitive rather than becoming dominant instantly.

Philippines did the the first leg of their training camp in your country too last year for the FIBA Asia Championship. Had a couple of games against Lithuania U21 Team too and some against other professional teams.

About China:

They have played rusty in the last FIBA Asia championship in Manila. They ranked 3rd out of 4 in the group (of death) together with South Korea and Iran. They were eliminated by streak shooting Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) in the quarterfinals via a come from behind win. Yi Jianlian was also injured that time and Wang ZhiZhi was not as dominant as he was in his prime. I heard they tried to bid for a wild card spot in the worlds but withdrew the bid even before the selection.

I've got tickets to the 1/8, quarter and semi-finals and the finals of the USA team (if they get that far) so I'm definately rooting for them. I'm curious to see your team as well as Australia or Slovenia on the way there too! Group C (with USA) doesn't seem so interesting but I think you have a really tough group. I think you'll reach the semi's though.

Talking about tough groups, group A is insane with Spain, France, Brasil and Slovenia. France still has Batum, Diaw, Mahinmi, Fournier and Gobert so I think they can still come 2nd in this group after Spain. Group B is much weaker I think, I don't think Argentina is as strong as they used to be, so the Philipines team has a chance to make some noise.

I think it's gonna be Spain/USA finals with France and Lithunia stranding in the semi's.

We traditionally have an overstock of nice guards, so it's never a problem. However, our frontline isn't as experienced in internationally competition as Spain (at least not at the senior level). The biggest worries Coach K and his staff should have about Spain are its depth. We only have 4 bigs on ours, they have 6. It is possible for us to beat Spain, though.

And there is first big mistake by the referees.

Just watch foul by Diaw 4 seconds remaining in match Serbia-France with the score 73-73.

Obvious foul but no one can call that one on NBA star.

Bogdan Bogdanovic is european rising star, but one day he will be NBA star, I hope.

And we are small Serbia, fighting bravely against European champion.

And of course that referees are going to help France team if they can. But this is ridicoulous.

Not the first time the refs made BIG controversial calls or non-calls in the tournament. Another example is yesterday's game of Philippines versus Croatia. And it happened during two crucial last second plays (one in 4th quarter and another one in OT) in favor of Croatia. Croatia got a lot of silly calls too against them. But well, they all need to move on and focus on their remaining games. Hopefully, officiating improves too.

Group A is a tough group of powerhouse teams. Even if Serbia does not get a higher seed, they will surely put a great match against their group B opponent come the round of 16.
