Forbid spamming ?

No, you can't do that, but you can certainly reduce it by not encouraging it.

Well that kind of spam is quite rare no ?

Not at all. It's actually very common

In my experience, no, not at all rare.

Think "plague" and you'd be closer in your assessment of guestbook spam ;-)

Keep in mind that this is a membership only site, and it would be a membership only guestbook. In HT you rarely see spam, and to further prevent spam you could perhaps add the possibility to ban people from posting in your guestbook?

I wish I was playing your HT.

NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke
Charles: Penn has some good people
A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

You already are, at least according to yourself earlier in this thread? Now, since this is a suggestion thread, not a sarcasm thread, and a BB asked for arguments against... seriously?

I was being sarcastic not at you really, more the idea that I don't get spam in HT, which I do constantly.

Please don't take offense, I wasn't directing that at you personally.

No problem - I just don't experience it that way in HT. I use it - as someone mentioned earlier in this thread - to greet friends on good performances, etc. I find it a nice feature, and added - if you implement the possibility to ban unwanted people from posting - you should be able to moderate it as well. This could be done in several ways:

- you could have a whitelist (like a spam filter) - only people on your whitelist get to post messages in your guestbook
- you could ban users individually on sight

The constant problem with guestbooks is that one man's spam is another man's treasure, and always causes issues amongst the staff in HT.

In completely ignoring this "feature", the BBs have removed this conflict of opinions. (Fair play to them).

If you want to congratulate people, you could always send them an individual message, or is that too personal? (My cynicism lies in the point of why do people feel the need to see their comments posted on other team pages when a perfectly good messaging service is in existence... there must be some reason, however bad or good, for people to post about this).

I understand your point of view, but you can easily accomodate everyone if you made it an optional feature - possible to turn on/of in your preferences. That applies to HT as well.
