If this post isn't ironic in any way, you are now my idol.

If he's being ironic, he got me there alright.

Exactly, so if a player is further from the basket his shooting is more ineffective. Therefor if a player has a higher JR, his jump brings him closer to the net.

So that means he can jump. That's the point. You know that dunkers also jump to shoot, right?

How is that not at all? It says that a players shot is worse if their further from the net. And jump range brings you closer to the net. That's common sense lol.

You do realize where the "jump" in jump shot comes from, right?

Jump shot (basketball), an attempt to score in basketball and netball by jumping, usually straight up, and in mid-jump, propelling the ball in an arc into the basket. unlike a normal shot where your feet stay on the ground.

And no, you don't jump back and forth when you take a jump shot. So jump range has nothing to do with it.

Boy, this thread is getting hilarious.

It is getting pretty funny.

But as I said earlier, Dwight Howard doesn't jump far. He jumps high. Dunk contests are more about height than distance. I mean just look at last nights dunk contest.

Jump Range is the best thing we have to determine this. It's obvious just by looking at the name jump range. It's the range of the jump.

Do you see what I mean?

Right, but Jump Range doesn't have anything to do with how you jump, it is an evaluation of how you shoot. It differentiates the players who can shoot well from close distance only from the players who can shoot well from close and far.

J.J. Reddick is the first guy who comes to mind who is an example of good Jump Shot and good Jump Range. And, athletically speaking, he cannot jump at all.

edit: You got me to play along this far. You win.

I'm not sure about reality because Basketball isn't my favourite sport, but as said by the nomenclature that you told me to look at:

A player with a higher jump range will find that the effectiveness of his jump shot decreases less with distance.

Which means the closer you are to the net (this can be with distance or height) the better you shoot. So you can JUMP. The name is jump range meaning that it's the range you can jump. So yes, jump range has to do with jumping.

P.S - It's not about winning or losing, it's about making an epic thread!
