a couple things to consider...although you dominated at every position except PF, it was exactly his PF that took most of the shots.... its not a bad algorithm in that the matchup ratings really show you what the expected value of points should be and we are assuming independent probabilities of shots...so there really isn't anything else to do.

looking at your game I think you'd win by 15 most of the time, but happen to lose this once.

Okay, I'm not saying that there shouldn't be a random factor - I'm 100% okay with that.

I understand that he had more attempts, and I do know how to count, so I do understand how the numbers add up ;)

If it was a divisional game I would have shrugged it off - I lost another 1 point game to a team I should have dominated in a divisional game and shrugged it off.

But it's a cup game against a bot team with worse players, worse ratings, that I should have dominated.

I should not have HAD more turnovers, since we were both playing man to man defense, and my team ratings are ALL higher than his, offense and defense. And my starters were all strong in practice.

Anyhow - I'm not going to bother saying anything else - it's futile since nothing can (or would, even if it could) be done about it. But I still think that this is *ridiculous*.

This game needs a LOT of growing up to do before it comes close to being realistic...

Defensive Strategy: Man to Man

Outside Scoring: awful (low)
Inside Scoring: inept (low)
Perimeter Defense: awful (medium)
Inside Defense: pitiful (low)

Offensive Flow: awful (medium)

Team ratings for
Puljanka

Offensive Strategy: Look Inside
Defensive Strategy: 2-3 Zone

Outside Scoring: awful (high)
Inside Scoring: mediocre (low)
Perimeter Defense: awful (low)
Inside Defense: mediocre (low)
Rebounding: inept (high)
Offensive Flow: inept (low)

ok if we are talking here about random, but this is way too much. my oponent will become bot very soon, we played at my home, my enthusisasm was -6, and my ratings are all higher than his. normally I would expect to win with at least 20 points , but no, I lose

so, we are not talking about tactic, about good or bad players, it's all about random

this is *ridiculous*.

Why, because you lost?

When thousands of games are played a week worldwide, there will be some aberrations in the results, no matter what.

You happen to be a victim of one such aberration, and that most certainly is realistic.

24 fouls vs. 14 fouls
9 TOs vs. 3 TOs

He had more shot attempts than you did. Guess the game levels doesn't take that into account.

I agree that there needs be a random factor, but it seems the current algorithm sets it too high, and one in a million becomes a flip of a coin. Maybe just tone it down some?

Bulls 97 - 93 Pistons 11/8/07
Bulls 78 - 85 Knicks 11/24/07

Clearly, the NBA needs to make their league more realistic...

Have you been reading this thread from the beginning...? Because you're comparing apples and oranges.

We're not talking about two teams in the same league - we're talking about one team that is a higher calibre on every level, and that is 2 levels higher, playing a bot team which is worse at every position.

Yes, in the NBA crappy teams can pull off upsets against strong teams - but even crappy NBA teams are still NBA teams and still have NBA-calibre players.

Next time the US national high school champion takes down the Pistons, THEN make your snarky comment. Until then, try and stick to relevant issues - thanks.

I would say that this thread is more about your perception of how big you believe the differences between should be, rather than what they are today. In a few seasons the best teams will start to become good. Right now there are no teams that are even close to "NBA calibre", instead all teams are on a low high school level (or perhaps worse). In other words you are the one comparing apples with oranges.
