Best defense is a good offense?
Something tells me Gipson will be just fine. Ask Jim Carmichael.

You missed my point completely.

I have defensive stoppers I can swap onto other positions. No team had more than 2 pure offensive players that could match those two last season. Therefore, going back to darkjosef's assertion, wtf do I care if he can't defend that well? I'd have to have played a team with 3 G/F types who scored more than him AND as I mentioned with the Top 10 scoring list, that simply was not even close to true.

So with the ability to switch on defense his defense was hidden whenever I needed to.

The premise of your statements and assertions are misleading at best. Using the top 10 scoring list as a gauge fro ability doesn't mean much when factoring in how training works in this game. Some of the best players might not average 35-40 mins per game, but 25-30 if they are being trained. My 2 bigs from last season spent most of the time sitting in the top 5-7 spots of the average rebounding list. However, I wasn't training them so they were playing every league game, occasionally matching up against inferior trainees. On top of that, I was getting blown out in most games, thus they were padding stats in the 4th quarter against greatly inferior subs. They were not the best rebounders in the league (I have since sold one and relegated the other to back-up duties), but were ranked quite high.

You also imply that the ability to switch around defense responsibilities is some magical cure, but don't seem to realize the other team is doing the exact same thing to you....

W&C gets the "Folding Chair" Award for his performance in the 4th quarter Saturday night. Congratulations!!

In all fairness to W&C, neither of our teams shot well in the 4th. I only made 4 more FGs than they did. Most of my points came from the line.

You're over-complicating what I am saying!!

How about just, whoever puts the orange leather sphere through the orange ring more frequently wins?

Only 5 players scored more per game than him last season. So if my math serves me correctly that means on average he outscored his opponent for everyone but those 5 players. And that already considers my opponent switching his best defender onto him.

Now consider that I had 3 similar players who could put up 20 ppg. How are you going to beat that? You either need 3 players who are slightly better at offense or 3 players who are shut down defenders but can still beat my 3 players defense or some combination of the above. That simply was not present last season.

I think you're getting tripped up by the premise that whoever scores the most wins. Its tough I know. Also let me assure you I value defense as much as anyone.

Ha, thanks for the slight props. I actually don't even watch my games anymore - probably wouldn't even have noticed how bad of a 4th I had were it not for the post. Not to mention the fact I wasn't planning on winning anyway . . . apparently I should have actually tried slightly harder . . .

So there's this little basketball game in town today...I grew up going to Butler games with my grandfather and the Demon Deacon in me hopes Duke has an outbreak of gonnosyphaherpelaids, so I'm happy with the halftime score.

When you're done masturbating in front of everyone, perhaps you should check out some facts. Stop forcing me to lead everyone through your giant cow pasture to point at the bullshit:

*cough* (17915926), (17915958), (17916038), (20176603) *cough*

You'll note that I only included games where even enthusiasm was used, so while you may whine about the last one and Gipson being injured, at least I didn't remind everyone that through the first 15 games or so, you were the only team in the league to lose to Postal (whoops, I did it anyway).

I think you're getting tripped up by the premise that whoever scores the most wins. Its tough I know. Also let me assure you I value defense as much as anyone.

The last sentence seems to contradict your entire argument with lathrop and Azariah. Read back a few pages. Is the best defense a good offense? Is a player with shit defense not mono-skilled? Make up your mind already.

I was cheering for Butler. The Howard kid and I went to the same high school, and we played our regional tourney at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Dude Nandino was the leading scorer in half those games. Thus wtf do I care if his defense was only strong? He scored more than his opponent scored.

Just because I purchased 2 monoskilled, untrainable offensive players for, in my opinion, low amounts of money does not mean I don't still value defense. How does the rest of my roster look? Do you know?

The genesis of this argument was you insinuating that I am overvaluing players because they were heavy on offense. Did these players not help me win games?

So, oh holy one, what are you trying to say by those 4 games again? I lost them? Were you undefeated.

And I know you're not remedial, you're just trying to take cheap shots so I'm sure you realize that a) that was before Postal "went Postal" and b) teams frequently don't put forth their best lineups to save their players for more important games. Or do you want me to explain how the game shape works too?
