(eg inside shot is not changing the salary of a small forward until he switches to become a pf).

This is interesting for me too.

I am buying a 36k center with Star potential. In the Training manual I read star soft cap happens around 45-50k. This means I can get two more pops in IS before hitting soft cap.

But I'm more interested in what happens when you actually hit your soft cap and start training skills that don't add to salary for that position. For example, I'd train this C's Passing to Proficient, Handling and Driving a few pop-ups and Jump shot also. All of this doesn't change the salary one bit (used the Josef-K salary calculator). So will he train his secondary skills slower because of soft cap or not?

I may have an answer in my roster, but I want to hear other opinions too. I have this player:

Ferenc Boga (12159053) Shooting Guard

Weekly salary: $ 10 246

DMI: 46100
Age: 21
Height: 6'3" / 190 cm
Potential: 6th man
Game Shape: respectable
Jump Shot: proficient Jump Range: strong
Outside Def.: proficient Handling: average
Driving: inept Passing: respectable
Inside Shot: atrocious Inside Def.: average
Rebounding: respectable Shot Blocking: awful
Stamina: respectable Free Throw: mediocre

His last pop was in OD. Then I trained 1 on 1 for two weeks and JS for one week; only Handling and driving got one pop, while JS didn't. This probably means he reached his soft cap, but is still training with normal speed in skills which don't affect his salary with pops. At least I can guess that from how training went...thoughts?

Mostly though, it seems unlikely due to the complexity of the implementation that would be needed. Also since we have no evidence that the caps are based directly on salary.

I do not think it is unlikely. If it is not linked to salary you need to build a totally different assessment of player development. What are you going to choose? Number of skill points? If you want to have something related to the perfomance, it must be position related. This is exactly the way the salary formula has ben implemented. Therefore, it seems to me the most plausible hypothesis for the moment.

Salary, itself, is based on the number of skill points. It's just that the formula is different for every position.

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

i think (yes, i know its totally offtopic) number of skill points brings a victory for a team. BB is not about whoever has stroger players, its about whoever brings more skills on court. thats why we sometimes see ratings way better and a loss, with equal effort. with boxscore favoring for the team which won.

If it was like that, everybody should train driving and handling as much as possible + add out of position skills to his players (like ID for a PG and JR for Cs) - that way one could maximize the skill volume, while minimizing his salaries...

Any more news on OD affecting the cap or not? I have continued to train my player single position pressure and he has continued to pop every 2-3 weeks with only a level 4 trainer.

Also, when is the supposed soft cap for starter potential players?

Any progress?

Not really. I have had just a few new players this season. Also, I am quitting the game so someone else will have to take on the challenge.
