PHAN THIET (AP) The Philosopher Kings might be the hottest BBB team nobody's talking about.

Between Metallist Kharkov knocking off Dionysus and rtfg topping the salary list, Canada's biggest hope has slipped under the radar.

And that's just fine with them. They'll just silently go about their business of winning -- in the Canada Tournament, Naismith league, and Buzzerbeater's Best.

Waldemar Hielscher-Uhl was in the starring role Wednesday as he posted a game high 32 points and grabbed a game high 14 rebounds, helping the Philosopher Kings defeat Skyworld 95-80 and move in the BBB semi-finals.

PK has won three BBB games in a row and next face Copa de Espana champions Sant Mateu.

Behind Hielscher-Uhl, the starting lineup is bolstered by 3 Canadian National Team members -- Gerry Stavridis, Essa Abu-Kaleel, and Glenn Richards -- who all boasted double-digit scoring games.

Stavridis also dished out 9 assists and forced his opposite number, Jed Hook, into a poor 3-for-12 shooting performance.

"He's the engine of our team. And when the engine together with all the other parts work so smoothly, it usually adds up to a win," Dominicus Hilling said.

PK have little time to celebrate, as a Canada Tournament final match-up against Genso Suikoden II is to be played back home on Thursday night. That meeting is sure to be closer than the massacre PK's shorthanded bunch received almost two months ago.

Niu Chee Choong scored 23 points for dispatched Taiwan #1 Skyworld, who were undefeated in the BBB until this quarterfinal. The nail in the coffin could have come early, when starting power forward Jozef Chremeta fouled out just halfway through the second quarter.

Chremeta has been widely criticized for his less than stellar defense. His sixth disqualification due to fouling comes as no surprise to BBB experts.

Backing Chremeta up was Panfilo Arguello, who did his best to keep Skyworld close, but getting enough stops on the defensive end plagued the team.

"Hielscher-Uhl," Arguello said, "was difficult to contain today."

The German powerhouse hit 14-of-21 for 66% to up his already impressive 63% shooting for the year. His only trouble was a lackluster 3-for-8 from the free-throw line. PK averages were similar -- 51% from the field and 60% from the line.

PK trailed only once, after the game's opening dunk by Pierre Faure, and never dropped a quarter en route to the 15-point win. Abu-Kaleel hit a difficult fadeaway to provide the game's final points.

"He never gives up until the final whistle," Stavridis said. "Up 20, down 20, it's all the same to him when that orange ball finds it's way into his hands."

Skyworld doggedly stayed close to the Kings all game, but some mental lapses hurt large. Twice the Canadian team missed the second of two free throws, secured the rebound, and immediately capitalized with a layup. Skyworld's manager, sky, was kept busy, pulling out his hair and pacing up and down the sideline.

NOTES: PK enjoyed a 10-2 rebounding edge early, but only held a 26-20 lead. ... Skyworld was in the bonus just 3:09 into the 4th quarter but did not take advantage. ... how important is opponent build?

A lot I think. One more thing I noticed:

With current type of inside player builds (more IS and less ID), inside battles end up being a game of fouls. Who's PF will foul out first?
With 2-3 defense, this "fouling-out game" is mitigated because fouls get distributed between 2 or more players. Against Rakus, for example, your PF will foul out every game with M2M defense and your offensive production will decrease. If you play 2-3 however, you contain Rakus for even just a bit, but more importantly, your PF stays in the game.

I agree that you woud stop Rakus and similar player with a center like:

OD 12
ID 19
SB 15

But I don't think such a player exists.

nother option is to go 3 or 4 deep on bigs with guys that are not that high of salary, but have good contributive skills and aren't complete turds on D...and can crash teh boards....

But wouldn't your offense hurt too much?

i congratulate Defenders for his way up to semi final. Although his opponents shouldnt be in the B3 playoffs at all considering their game statistics where he never played vs an opponent with more than "10" inside defense or outside defense (its been like 10 seasons since i had 10 and 10 in both defense statistics.
Very very lucky draws. Next opponent is rather tough.
